I am happy to introduce a local guide who works at a Transgender Project under government called Dale View Transgender Suraksha Project in Trivandrum, India.

Let’s meet @rkk.

Rahul Krishnan, a Project Manager at Dale View Transgender Suraksha Project. The project has been working for the transgenders for a decade and are mainly focusing on the health aspect of the community and also the social well being of the community. They also take awareness classes in various educational institutions and conduct awareness drives on various important days such as Pride Month, Transgender visibility day and Transgender awareness week.

Let’s hear what Rahul has to say:

  1. How do you guys collaborate with other organisations to promote Transgender Visibility and Inclusivity?

Answer : We are having good coordination with the Community Based Organisations and NGOs. We were able to provide our facilities as needed by the community. Also the organisations who were willing to use their CSR funds (Corporate Social Responsibilities Fund) were well appreciated and utilised.

  1. How do you think we can ensure Google Maps is more Transgender friendly and transgender visible?

Answer : For a transgender safe place, icons have to be easily visible. Organisations and service providing centres or businesses supporting them have to be well shown.

  1. How can we work towards promoting and supporting transgender owned businesses in Google Maps?

Answer : One way is to show visibility of these businesses on Google Maps. Supportive reviews and an attribute Badge would be helpful for businesses that are owned by transgenders.

  1. Can you suggest any ways that Google Maps can be used to promote greater inclusivity and understanding of Transgender Experiences?

Answer : One way is to show a Transgender friendly or Transgender Safe space badge supporting Businesses on Google Maps. Other way is to have a icon or badge for Local Guides in Connect Or Maps Profile for identifying as a person from LGBTQ+ community.

  1. What does Transgender Visibility Day mean to you and How does your organisation plan to celebrate it?

Answer : It has to be a day for remembering and putting forward the inclusivity of the transgenders, not just for the day.

Thank you Rahul for giving me this insight on the project on this Wonderful Day.
