Local Guides Statistics

All Local Guides(LGs) are working with pride. Sometimes LGs think, "How many LGs are there?" "How many number are at a higher level than me?". I think this kind of information is important to motivate LGs who are proud of themselves.

In fact, I have compiled statistics based on some public information as following, it became so popular that it became a top trend.

Connect statistics: Do you know how many LV10?

I was convinced that LG wanted to know not only the simple statistics, but also the more deeper and more accurate statistics. So, I suggest this.

Background:

• LGs and others want statistics.
• Googler can make more accurate information easier (I've needed more than 100 hours to prepare the data and create the graph.)

Base Data:

• All LGs which mean include not signed up LGs on Connect 

Frequency:

• Publish on a regular basis. (It would be great if it could be done in real time. but it's technically difficult.) 

Statistical graph:

• Number of LGs
• Headcount at each level 

Top 100 LG's:

• Level
• Number of badges awarded
• Total Points
• Number of points only for photos
• Number of points only by word of mouth
• Video Only Points
• Number of points only for photos
• Number of photos submitted
• Number of reviews 

Categorize: 

• By country
• By Period (Monthly, early) 

Some statistics may not be necessary for the protection of personal information. But, I think LGs fell too happy to be praised.

Effect:

• Motivation increases (I know it's not cost-effective.) 

In my opinion, it is difficult to realize the statistics described in the idea. But we want to know that. There will also be better ideas and suggestions. I am looking forward to much feedback.

I think it's great that you have acted on my suggestion @YutaE so now let's wait and see if the idea gets the popular votes needed in order for it to be considered by Google for implementation.  You have included a link to your original post however I suggest that it would be much better if you edit your Idea Exchange post and ALSO add even an example chart for each statistic but at least add some of the original summary charts as follows:

I'm agree with your idea. Yes, we need statistics. One vote from me.

Here is my opinion why need this kind of statistics: numbers (i.e. statistics) can make our opinion more credible. When we promote about this Local Guides Programme to society, we could say "Local Guides is a global programme that has XXXmillion users/members." By saying this, we could convince the non-Local Guides audiences about this programme credibility. And maybe after that they would join to this programme.

What's the benefits to the Local Guides audience? This statistics (numbers and rank) could be used to motivate them to contribute more to Google Maps by showing them their current rank/position in between other Local Guides at their city. It's about the pride of being a Local Guides.

Muy buena idea, sería muy interesante poder tener todas esas estadísticas.  Al principio cuando obteníamos una insignia en la página nos indicaba el total de personas a nivel global que habían obtenido dicha insignia y eso nos daba una referencia que nos motivaba a continuar contribuyendo cada día más.

Statistics are a double edged thing @YutaE there are people like you that love them, but there is a downside. When you see that email that says you're the top 1% of Local Guides in your city that makes you feel really happy. It makes you feel special. Imagine the inverse where you don't get that and you might feel that I'm just in the 99%. It can do really bad things to a person's self esteem. You may have heard of the recent changes that Instagram is experimenting with to reduce harm to susceptible people by removing one of the public comparison points - the number of likes on their posts. I'm not saying your idea is bad, but perhaps it needs to be tempered with people being able to opt in or at least opt out.

I personally don't care how I compare to other Local Guides at all. I compare my progress to myself.

I love stats and numbers @YutaE - when, of course, someone else compiles them that is!  I like your idea, your attention detail and how very thorough you are....leaving no stone unturned.  Really good idea! 👍🏼
