Appeal against merging of posts.

Hello,

Local guides put in a lot of efforts while writing a post on connect. Directly merging our post without a chance to be heard is a bit harsh. We all deserve a chance to explain/appeal as why our post should not be merged. My idea is a put an appeal option against the merger of a post, so that we get a chance to explain the intent of the post and why it should not be merged. After that google moderators can take the final call.

Thank you.

Hey!!! @PriyankaU

This type of experience I feels many times.

However, Google moderator tag you, when your post is merging.

There is no any perfect rules for merging.

Because our selection of post, topic of post and content, there are many things depends for merging.

The merging of posts makes easier, because all similar topics under one thread is more useful and highly appreciated.

If the appeal form open by connect, I assure is crate high unbalance.

Because after that all local guides try to reedit or change the content, and before this already many comments available on their thread.

So, if the post changed by local guide for saving to merging with another similar thread,

All comments that they received on their thread, and now local guide change the post.

So, it's looks like,

Post not related comments.

And comments not related to posts.

However, You should develop the your serching skills and find that any other post is available in similar topic?

I don't say it's 100% works, but based on my experience it's works 96-99%.

All the best.

You are saying to not post on connect if there's a similar topic already there. What if, I want to share something different on the same topic ?

@KishorMali Sometimes the topics may be same but the experience and point of views of people differ on the same topic. Instead of directly merging, listening to the author of the post seems fair.

After merging the comments section becomes messier.

@PriyankaU

Exactly.

I suggesting already in previous comment. Again read that.

For your understanding,

I can give you Example,

Suppose, one local guide publish the post  about achieving 2020 Applicant badge,

Their point of view, content, way of presentation, Feelings, thoughts different to other local guide.

Same another local guides point of view doesn't match with that local guide.

And 12,298 posts Available on connect on one topic but with different point of views.

That's why @ErmesT  publish his post,

https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Connect-Live-Applicants-Share-your-APPLICAT...

Check this.

I hope, now it's clear.

I'm totally agree with you. It also happened with me, but if you are writing about different topics then I feel it will not be merge.

@PriyankaU sure I did it the first one

I totally agree with you, @PriyankaU. Some post may show a totally different perspective of a particular topic being discussed in a different post. With an appeal option, we can explain the reason why it need not to be merged. Thanks for this idea.

It is not always simple, and easy, to decide what to merge and when to merge, @PriyankaU , and I clearly understand your point of view. This is always a doubt that I have, especially when a lot of Local Guides write simultaneously about a common topic, that can be Eid, in your case, or Christmas, or simply the Earth Day. A wave of post come on Connect, most of them just saying "happy Earth Day", to use my last example, and the doubt about "to merge or not to merge" is always present. Someone would like to have everything merged, (I am not talking about Moderators) to keep connect organised and readable, while others would like to have everything separate, even if every single post will be buried in minutes. Some post is more articulate, took time for writing, and probably deserve to be left alone. Not an easy choice.

I wrote a container post, @KishorMali , for interact with people who wanted just to say "hey, I've got a new badge", but this is a different story.

My feeling is that the author of the post have always the possibility to interact with the author of the merge, but I also understand that it is not always nice or easy to start a discussion about his own post.

When I want to say something about a decision, to explain why I disagree, I use the "reporting tool", explaining in anonymous mode to the moderators (they read our report) what I think. I believe that we can use this as an appeal form too, where we can explain our reasons. Generally speaking, I believe that we have the right to send a private complaint, so I voted for your idea. Good Luck
