RECAP: Chalai Bazaar - LG Meetup

RECAP- LGs help enrich the Chalai Bazaar of Trivandrum

It was a great run this past sunday while a couple of Local Guides got together to help the Local Businesses in the Chalai Bazaar area of Trivandrum.

Four local guides' collective- @Rahul001 , @syedshiyazmirza , @GeoZac , @abrahamjoseph236 together to do our trivial to support those small fishes in the big pond. The bazaar is densely packed with several miniscule shops and some of them still remain unrecognized. So we started out on our mission to add those missing dots and details on the map.

This is how the meetup went down

So at 10:30am, as planned, we local guides gathered at Gandhi Park, the open plaza at one end of the Bazaar. We had our customary confab of introductions and a small discussion on crowdsource, and its pros and cons.

After about 20 minutes, we set off to dive headfirst into the action. We split into two groups and covered either sides of the Main spine of the Bazaar. And so begins the exercise.

As local guides, we felt it is our obligation to capture the essence of the place. So we thought it was only fair that we capture the products and the dynamism on the streetsides and within the shops. This would paint a mental image in the minds of locals, and most importantly tourists who intend to visit Trivandrum. Glimpse through the bright hues on the sidewalks of Chalai.

The bazaar is also famous for all the daily-need provisions and products up for grabs in the stores. These too add to the effervescence of the street. From hardwares to household goods, the street is vivacious to the city's needs.

We went strolling along the sides of the Chalai street taking pictures and updating content of the maps. We would occasionally pause at a spot to capture great views, while at other times, we would make a run along a street edge to capture a panorama. Entering details of stores happened along the way.

We spent a fair share of time on the streets up till the moment we couldn't take the scorching heat anymore. and then we had to call it a day. We reassembled at Gandhi park for our closing discussion.

The Achievements-

Photos added to maps - 173

Edits made to existing content- 29

New Places added to maps - 36

It obviously ain't a herculean achievement, but just a small input from us budding Local Guides. We ended our meet-up with refreshments and then bid adieu.

Thank you to all the participants and hope to see you all again for the next episode in enriching Trivandrum.

Re: RECAP: Chalai Bazaar - LG Meetup

@Rahul001 Great and happy to see a physical meetup in Kerala after some time. Thanks to everyone for.taking the effort even in the hottest weather. I really do miss the bazaar there. Glad to see everyone together. Hope there will be more meetups in the near future.

I added this recap as our 42nd meetup in our Kerala Local Guides meetup repository here.

One suggestion for a small edit in the post. Open and edit the post, and for each image, open, edit all the images and set the display size to large, so for desktop users, we can see the full image on the the full PC screen.
