Supporting Small Businesses: Lakhpati SHG Didi

Hello Friends,

This is a little different post to re-emphasize the way we Support Small Businesses as a Local Guide. This is completely dedicated to the women power of the society where in they are called as Lakhpati Didi. This is an initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development with an objective to empower women Self-Help Group (SHG) members to achieve an annual household income exceeding ₹1,00,000 (Indian Rupees One Lakh) through sustainable livelihood practices and entrepreneurial ventures.

It is our social and moral responsibility to support small businesses by all means and it becomes more useful when we do so through the use of Google Maps. And, in this regard, I recently visited Saras Aajeevika Mela Noida 2025 organized by National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) where I found such Lakhpati Didis from 26 states of our country. The theme for this year is ‘Developing Export Potential of Lakhpati SHG Didis,’ focusing on expanding market opportunities for women artisans. They were in the Mela with a variety of hand made products including but not limited to Handicrafts and Handlooms. Such events and exhibitions support skilled people of India as a step forward to Aatm Nirbhar Bharat (Self Reliant Bharat).

In my first post in this series of Supporting Small Businesses I have explained as what sort of small businesses we can support and how to support them. Under What section,

Concept of Lakhpati SHG Didi

is another area under cottage and micro small business which can be considered to support in addition to later added shops like

Chaat Golgappe stall, Paan shop, Momo shop/stall and Shoe repair shop.

What

and How

During my recent visit, I did some local shopping here. I visited couple of stalls and did purchasing. The quality of their products is awesome. Handloom towels from Telangana are awesome. A delicious taste of Papad and Namkeen from Rajasthan. Likewise, some other items also I have purchased from here including cotton handkerchiefs. The price was also quite reasonable.

Let us have a glimse of some of the Lakhpati Didi’s shops in the Mela:

This Mela is must to visit for people who are in or around NCR Delhi, India. You will experience a great time here nothing less than Dilli Haat and that too in a pocket friendly way. The best part is while visiting and shopping here we are strengthening the Local skills to further strengthen the philosophy behind Aatm Nirbhar Bharat and supporting small businesses.

Excellent post on supporting Local Businesses, a very detailed article on the Saras Ajeevika Mela. You are absolutely right, we need to support such local businesses and especially Self Help Groups. They go through a lot of challenges in making beautiful products and bringing them to us for selling. During my recent visit to INTACH Utsav there was an exhibition of handicraft products made by local artisans around the country. I learned a lot about the struggles they had to go through to make the products and bring them from various remote corners of the country. It would be wonderful for the entire community if more and more people get inspired by your post and contribute to supporting Local Businesses. Thank you for sharing @Kumaarsantosh

Thank you @Ssiddharth2000 for your appreciative words and acknowledging the effort.

I am completely in agreement that this practice of supporting Small Businesses should be in spirit and not only in letter. It is sad that we are still far behind in all means to practically support them. It doesn’t take much for the supporters but it makes a significant impact in their (Self Help Group people) lives. Not only that, the quality and design they produce are unique an durable.

Yes..they all go through a deep struggle. The least we can do with our contribution by buying and promoting their stuffs. Simple examples are buying and using handicraft items, pickles, Papad, Namkeen. These are of basic daily need items which anyways we use in our home.
