🌟 Start Your Journey on Connect: Read, Share Your Story & Join Meetups

Hello Local Guides! :waving_hand:

Have you written your first post on Connect yet?
If not, this is the perfect time to begin your journey here and introduce yourself :backhand_index_pointing_right: here, following the 5 prompts mentioned in the post.

Did you know? :backhand_index_pointing_right: By creating your first post, you earn the :tada: “New Writer” badge on Connect. It’s a small step—but a meaningful milestone in becoming an active member of this global community.

:writing_hand: What Can You Write About?

If you’re wondering where to start, here are some more simple and meaningful ideas:

:round_pushpin: 1. Share Your Google Maps Achievements

(This topic will fall under Category Connections and cellebrations and tag Let’s celebrate)
Google Maps regularly sends emails highlighting your contributions and milestones.
:backhand_index_pointing_right: The next time you receive one, turn it into a Connect post!
Share your progress, your journey, and what motivates you.

:star: 2. Talk About Your Favourite Contribution

(This topic will fall under Category Connections and cellebrations and tag Let’s celebrate)
Not sure what your best contribution is?

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Open your Google Maps profile and check where you contributed the most.
Remember:

  • It’s about number of contributions, not points

  • Example:

    • 1 review = 10 points
    • 1 answer = 1 point
    • If both show 10 points → your favourite is Q&A (because you contributed more times!)

This is a great way to discover your strength as a Local Guide.

:teacup_without_handle: 3. Share Your Favourite Place

(This topic will fall under Category Google Maps contribution stories and tag Food & drinks and/or Local business)
Think about:

  • The tea stall you visit :hot_beverage:
  • Your favourite restaurant :fork_and_knife_with_plate:
  • A hidden local gem :round_pushpin:

After writing a review on Google Maps:

  • Add :star: ratings
  • Answer attributes
  • Then come to Connect and share your story
  • Don’t forget to include:
    • Your review link
    • Google Maps location link

:speech_balloon: Prefer Reading Instead of Writing?

That’s absolutely fine!

But don’t just scroll—
:backhand_index_pointing_right: Engage with the community:

  • Like posts :+1:
  • Share your thoughts in comments :thought_balloon:

A great place to start is the Community Guidelines section, which helps you understand how Connect works.

:globe_showing_europe_africa: What You Gain from Being Active

From my personal experience, Connect is much more than Maps:

  • I learned PPT presentation skills from Connect Moderator @ErmesT
  • I witnessed how Connect Moderators @KashifMisidia & @TusharSuradkar encouraged a Local Guide to speak in her own language during a meetup—helping her express confidently.
  • And there are many more such inspiring examples

:sparkles: These moments show that:

  • You grow personally
  • You build confidence
  • You connect with people across the world

This is what makes our community sustainable and powerful :blue_heart:

Great and helpful guide @SharmaKK ji :collision:

This post will really motivate new Local Guides to start their journey on Connect with confidence and clear ideas.

Very well explained and encouraging…:handshake:

Exactly @SharmaKK ji,
A person can express everything best in their own language. I’ll give you my own example: I am an Urdu writer, and my articles and stories have been published many times in Pakistan’s renowned print media.
When I express my thoughts, the beauty and depth I can achieve in Urdu is simply not possible for me in any other language.

Your post is fantastic and very encouraging for the thousands of Local Guides who want to start their journey on Connect.
Thank you so much for your post :folded_hands:t3:

Thanks for the tips @SharmaKK. Really appreciate it :fire:

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Connections & Celebrations — Every Place Has a Story
“Beautiful places are not just about where we go, but about the people we meet, the stories we share, and the memories we create.”
As a Writer, Traveller, and Local Guide, I love discovering new places and capturing the stories behind them—people, culture, food, celebrations, and those little moments that make a journey unforgettable. :round_pushpin::sparkles:
Connections & Celebrations is about bringing people together through travel, experiences, photography, and stories. Whether it’s a memorable café visit :hot_beverage:, a new friendship, a cultural celebration :tada:, or a hidden gem in our city—every connection adds meaning to the journey.
Let’s explore. Let’s connect. Let’s celebrate. And let’s share the stories that make every place special.:globe_showing_europe_africa:
