Part 1.
Dear friends,
Last week I went on a Heritage Inspired tour exploring the path of the spy Vandhiyadevan during the 10th century in the Chola dynasty period. Our first stop was the excavation site of the Chola Palace, near Gangai Konda Cholapuram.
I was very keen exploring the Palace. The ruins are the proof of the rich cultural Heritage of the Chola dynasty.
The excavation site of the ruins of the Chola Palace dates back to the 10 century. If the whole palace could be recreated through AI it will surely be one of the finest engineering marvel. Seeing the excavation itself one could imagine the grandeur of the Palace.
The above is the outer space surrounded by thick brick walls (6 feet thickness) where the Chola kings would have been on horses. Still the excavation is going on. Can expect more wonders from the site. This site is a remarkable landmark of the Chola architecture. The recovery artefacts are some gold foils, gold bracelet, copper coins, ivory objecfs, Chinese ceramics, some sculptures etc, are kept in a shed near the site.
The above is a dipaliated sculpture kept in the small Museum.
The reason of the destruction is the Pandya Dynasty invasions in later periods. Till the Chola dynasties ruled this was the capital of the kingdom.
The walk path in between two pits makes us to get goosebumps. Thanks for reading post.
Wait for next stop in the next part.
