History through inscriptions

Dear Friends

Part - 3. This is in continuation of my previous 2 posts regarding my Heritage Inspired tour and this post is regarding my 3rd stop in the tour.

Part - 1 Ruins of the 10th Century Chola Palace
Part 2 - Sculpture Stories

This is a small Temple which has some rock cut inscriptions regarding a plot to kill the Emperor to be Aditya Karikalan, the Chola dynasty prince and the execution of the murder.

The above picture is Sri Rudrapathi Temple, Keelkadambanur. This Temple is dedicated to God Shiva and has many sculptures of the devotees of the God, dated the early 12th century.

If you go inside the Temple, you could see the very ancient Shivaling inside the Sanctum. If you go inside and come around the Shivaling, there is a tunnel in the left corner ot the Sanctum. This tunnel is very dark and is of the size that humans can enter one after one inside. Photography is not allowed. It is believed that the 4 traitors who killed the Prince came through this tunnel, killed him and again escaped through this tunnel.

The above picture is Balipeet means Food offering altar. A design which is different from other Temples. This Temple is a hidden gem. This place is visited only by those people like historians and people who search for inscriptions. As I told there are many sculptures and rock cut inscriptions. Below is the pictures of rock sculptures and inscriptions.

Right side wall of Temple has very beautiful intricate sculpted wall.

The beautiful art and architecture are really amazing. We could see the inscriptions.

This is my review in Google Maps

As per legend the punishment and details of the prince and princess are inscribed in a little bigger Temple nearby. This will be continued in my next post. Bye until then. Thanks in advance for reading my post.

@NareshDarji to tell the fact this Temple is small compared to the Temples built that time. Thanks for your compliments. This place is in between bamboo forest. Surely that time this would have been an isolated place suitable to carry plots.

Though this is a small Temple, we never think there will be secrets behind these structures. Thanks @Annaelisa for the observation.
