Proof on Rock

Hi Friends

In continuation to my previous 3 parts, I feel privileged in sharing the next part of the next stop in my Heritage Inspired Chola Tour. Given below are the links of the previous 3 parts.

Part 1 - Ruins of the 10th century Chola Palace

Part 2 - Sculpture Stories

Part 3 - History through Inscriptions

Part 4 - Follows

The picture below is a very ancient Temple known as Sri Anantheeswarar Temple, built by Parantaka Chola 1, very much earlier than the Thanjavur BRAHADEESWARA BIG TEMPLE.

This Temple was renovated recently and the Kumbhaabishekam performed. Hence the fresh look. Below is the picture of the main entrance.

In my previous Part I have mentioned about a reletively small Temple, which had a tunnel. Through this tunnel the traitors who killed Aditya Karikalan came and escaped.

Who is Aditya Karikalan? He is the elder brother of Raja Raja Cholan and Kundavai.
Who is Raja Raja Cholan? He was the famous Chola Emperor who constructed the famous Brahadeeswara Temple of Thanjavur, known as BIG TEMPLE.

WHY WAS ADITYA KARIKALAN TARGETTED?

Aditya Karikalan was a very very brave warrior. No body can win him. He was so powerful and he contributed a lot for the expansion of the imperial Chola Kingdom. He was such a valourous person that no one stood face to face against him. Plans were made secretely by the other Nobels to kill the mighty Aditya Karikalan and bring his uncle to the throne. They executed the plot successfully. In spite of killing Aditya Karikalan, the traitors couldn’t succeed in getting their person as the ruler. Finally it was Raja Raja Cholan, younger brother of Aditya Karikalan, receded the throne.

Out of the 4 traitors who escaped, one was the resident of this place. His properties were confiscated and his family suffered the punishments.

The assasination declaration of Aditya Karikalan was inscribed in this Temple wall in the 10th century.

The above 2 pictures are rock cut inscriptions which were explained by the expert. That inscription reads as follows “The slayer of Pandya, the great Karikalan Cholan” which is the important proof of the name of the Emperor to be prince and then declared him dead. Then the inscriptions of the punishment continues. Thus there is solid proof of the prince and his murder, which cannot be erased even for centuries.

My review in Google Maps regarding the above beautiful Temple.

In my next post we will be visiting the secret location where all the Nobels met together and made plans to hire traitors. See you all in next post about the secret spot, until then bye.

This is interesting stuff and unique in the history of the world.

Are the Tamil inscriptions readable by common people, or do we need experts @Gurukrishnapriya?

Photos are excellent :+1:

Thank you very much @SaylliWalve1 for your compliments. The next post will be a little bit more interesting.

Thanks @TusharSuradkar for yourcompliments. A few letters are different, there is a course for learning these scriptures.

Yes the history is deep and miraculous @ShreyaMusings . The problem is we don’t have proper documentation of our ancient history.
