Recap: [In-Person] India, January 21, Exploring Pride Station

Hello Friends,

We had a caused based and the satisfying meet-up at Pride Station (Noida Sector - 50) on 21-January-2025. Thank you  so much for your valuable companionship.

About Venue

Noida Sector-50 has been officially renamed as Pride Station dedicated to the transgenders community. This step has been taken by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) for the inclusion and meaningful participation of the members of the transgender community. This initiative was inspired by the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, passed by the Centre for the protection of the rights of the transgender people. The venue is at the Metro Station Noida Sector-50 itself.

Meet-up Initiation

Since it was a physical meet-up, I reached the venue 10 minutes before the start time which was at 05.00 PM to welcome our confirmed participants. After reaching the venue I took some pictures of the surroundings and checked for the accessibility and ticketing system. Accessibility is detailed out in the subsequent section of this post. On ticketing, it is different than the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). A separate ticketing system is there for NMRC and also they have the separate metro lines.

Exploration

I started exploring the venue at 5 PM as per the published objectives to

  1. Explore the Pride Station
  2. Capture the art work and outlook of the Pride Station
  3. Explore the Accessibility at the Pride Station
  4. Chit chat with Staff at Pride Station (if permitted)

Thank you so much @Ssiddharth2000 and @ShreyaMusings for joining in-person to explore the place together.

Here is the glimpse of the photos to address the above mentioned FOUR objectives:

1. Explore the Pride Station

Pride station is very clean and well-maintained metro station. During our visit, it was not very crowded and was easy for us to walk and explore. We entered through Gate No. 2 of the metro station. A well-marked path is laid down once you get off the escalator. This was probably done during the Covid-19 time.

2. Capture the art work and outlook of the Pride Station

The interior walls of the metro station are full of beautiful artwork displaying the rich cultural significance of India.

3. Explore the Accessibility at the Pride Station

Pride Station is accessible to Wheelchair :wheelchair: through the elevators. There are two elevators covering both the gates of Pride Station (Gate No.1 & Gate No. 2). This metro station is also accessible to :man_with_probing_cane:.

4. Chit chat with Staff at Pride Station (if permitted)

On this day we could not meet any LGBTQ+ staff as they were not available. Upon enquiring, it was told that there are four LGBTQ+ staff currently employed here. Two of them were on leave and the other two had the morning shift duty. They are employed at the ticketing counter.

Meet-Up Closure

The meet-up ended sharp at 06.00 PM followed by high tea.
We had a great discussion on various topics related to Google Maps and Connect during high tea. Mohita presented some stickers and card too.

Thanks once again for joining.

Thanks @Rahul001 . You may go through the recap please.

@Kumaarsantosh this is the kind of meet up i look up to. It was a proper brainstorming session as coach Santosh is very calm and collective with his experience on maps, connect and life. I enjoyed learning so much about mapping roads by TRAC team, how to edit and what to edit in a proper way. What can we do more on connect or outside connect on maps to improve the user experience. I would love to have more such tea meet ups with Santosh ji and @Ssiddharth2000
Also @Kumaarsantosh gifted us books to be a better leader. Here are some pics of the metro station photowalk, books and is sharing experiences on maps and enjoying a beautiful conversation.

I hope you enjoyed with us @Kumaarsantosh
Waiting to meet you again soon.

Regards,
