Please “edit your post” is a phrase that you will read hundred of times in this community.
When a Moderator find something wrong in your post, or a content posted twice with a small change, “please edit your post” is the first thing that he will tell you. Well, “thank you”, a Local Guide replied to me today. “can you now explain me How To edit a post?” and “I posted twice because I had no idea about How To edit”
My first suggestion is of course to “Read before writing”. On the Help Desk Board there are a lot of post just to explain How to write a post or How to post a photo. But of course something can always go in a wrong way, and in that case you may need to make an edit.
Edit a post is of course possible, and very easy to do so, please, do not write a new post, just edit the original one.
Here I will explain How to edit a post and Why To do it
How to edit a post
Edit a post is simple. Every post and every reply have a “post menu”. To find the menu you just need to press the three blue dots on the post.
“Edit message” is the first line of the menu. Just press it, and you pass to edit mode
On edit you can modify everything on your post:
- Label (Topic) - (What are Connect topics?)
- Title of the post
- Content of the post (included adding/removing photos and videos) -
- Location of the post
- Language
- Additional topics
When you finish your edit, you simply need to “save changes”
That’s all, a couple of simple steps, to fix every mistake
Why to edit a post?
We already mentioned most of the reason for editing a post, but here I want to add two very specific and important reasons.
- Connect Live post: If your post is the application post for Connect Live - “your post should use the Local Stories topic”. If you posted on a different topic (What are Connect topics?), you need to change the label. During the edit, you can give the appropriate label to your post
- You posted “not original” content: If your post is partly containing something that is not original (How do I follow the original content guidelines on Connect?), you will be invited to “edit your post”. “Posts with images or content used without the copyright holder’s permission will be removed from Connect.” If a Moderator think that the violation is not intentional, will probably give you some time (hours) to edit your post, before remove it.
ATTENTION PLEASE: Sometime an edit can trigger the spam filter. Don’t worry, if it happens do not write another post, just tag a moderator (check here and here) on a reply to this post: Why was my Connect post marked as spam?
In any case the moderators are frequently patrolling the quarantine to release good post.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask, replying to this post
Thank you
