Edit your post - Why and How To

Please “edit your post” is a phrase that you will read hundred of times in this community.

When a Moderator find something wrong in your post, or a content posted twice with a small change, “please edit your post” is the first thing that he will tell you. Well, “thank you”, a Local Guide replied to me today. “can you now explain me How To edit a post?” and “I posted twice because I had no idea about How To edit

My first suggestion is of course to “Read before writing”. On the Help Desk Board there are a lot of post just to explain How to write a post or How to post a photo. But of course something can always go in a wrong way, and in that case you may need to make an edit.

Edit a post is of course possible, and very easy to do so, please, do not write a new post, just edit the original one.

Here I will explain How to edit a post and Why To do it

How to edit a post

Edit a post is simple. Every post and every reply have a “post menu”. To find the menu you just need to press the three blue dots on the post.

“Edit message” is the first line of the menu. Just press it, and you pass to edit mode

On edit you can modify everything on your post:

  • Label (Topic) - (What are Connect topics?)
  • Title of the post
  • Content of the post (included adding/removing photos and videos) -
  • Location of the post
  • Language
  • Additional topics

When you finish your edit, you simply need to “save changes”

That’s all, a couple of simple steps, to fix every mistake

Why to edit a post?

We already mentioned most of the reason for editing a post, but here I want to add two very specific and important reasons.

  • Connect Live post: If your post is the application post for Connect Live - “your post should use the Local Stories topic”. If you posted on a different topic (What are Connect topics?), you need to change the label. During the edit, you can give the appropriate label to your post

  • You posted “not original” content: If your post is partly containing something that is not original (How do I follow the original content guidelines on Connect?), you will be invited to “edit your post”. “Posts with images or content used without the copyright holder’s permission will be removed from Connect.” If a Moderator think that the violation is not intentional, will probably give you some time (hours) to edit your post, before remove it.

ATTENTION PLEASE: Sometime an edit can trigger the spam filter. Don’t worry, if it happens do not write another post, just tag a moderator (check here and here) on a reply to this post: Why was my Connect post marked as spam?

In any case the moderators are frequently patrolling the quarantine to release good post.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask, replying to this post

Thank you

Can we apply more than one tags (other than local stories?), I applied in my post but later i remove other tags except local stories. Will this edit affect my selection to connect live 2019?

Of course we can add additional tag, @SidrahJ (may I call you GPS?) LOL

A post written for connect live should be labelled as “local stories” but, let say that is a post about food, it can be tagged as food. For more information: How do I write a post on Connect?

@ErmesT Thank you very much. I had the very same problem you highlighted, posted an application post in the wrong location, and I could not find anyway of moving. Guess I missed the three dots option. Finally I had to request a moderator, and @sonnyNg very kindly helped. I did not know that it was so simple. In fact I found it strange that there was no option to edit - or so I thought.

(added later) I am editing this comment using your guidelines, just to let you know even after reading your post, I took a minute to find the three blue dots in my post. It is actually in a strange place. Now that you know where it is, it is simple, but for a Newbie can be difficult to find.

Cheers

Hi @Rakeshmind

First of all pleas use @ to mention the person you are talking with. This will makes the conversation easy to manage.

Deleting a photo is quite easy on desktop, while on Mobile you will find some difficult (and with some Operating System it will be very difficult)

On this post you will find some Tips and tricks to manage the photos in Connect

Thank you so much for your post. I had my post for my application to Connect Live 2019 in the Wrong Lavel @ErmesT

I hope that changing the label doesn’t change the name of the link. Or my application may include a link to a post that is now that I edited different. (The one I put on my application form).

I had it with “Travel”, and after sending the form I read this information and then changed it. I hope it doesn’t mess up with my application.

Don’t worry at all @SofiaWalnut

The chance of label will not affect your link.

Good luck

Hello,

i posted in local stories today about my city for my connect live application. My photos from the post are showing on my profile but my post is not there. I posted links within the post, could it have been marked as spam? I did put links in it to help describe what I was referring to. I was not promoting a business or anything. I know the post was live because I included the link in my connect live application but now the post is gone. Please let me know what I need to do to get it back.

I just want to inform that I have released your post.

Fingers crossed and good luck
