I started hearing about Local Guide Connect by @SophatCHY. He announced for a volunteer to fix maps during the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. During that time, the local guide meant to me the local tour guides who accompany tourists at tourism sites, so at first I was really hesitant to participate in the campaign. I told myself to explore and get understanding from the LGC core team about the project.

CONTRIBUTIONS:

Within a few months I have made a total of my contributions of 3,384.

On August 03, 2025: Participated in “Google Maps Mega Edit Marathon: Fix the Map, Help the Community” at The Factory Phnom Penh.

On August 10, 2025: Participated in the “Mega Edit—Map Data Problem Marathon (Phase II)” at E&M 360.

On September 06, 2025: Participated in the “Reclaiming Our Digital Space: Community Report Launch Event” at Orussey One Boutique.

Within a few months me and @SophatCHY also podcasted on the topic of “Google Maps and Connect.”

Seeing your transformation from someone who was initially hesitant (thinking Local Guides were tour guides ) to becoming a Level 6 contributor with 3,384 contributions is truly inspiring! Your dedication really shows through all the amazing work you’ve done.

I know the experience with the flagged posts was frustrating and discouraging - having 4 out of 10 topics flagged by the system would make anyone feel tired and want to give up. But please don’t! Your contributions are valuable, and the community needs voices like yours sharing Cambodia’s rich culture and beautiful places.

Thank you for joining those early map editing marathons during the border conflict - your willingness to volunteer and help fix the maps made a real difference! And I really enjoyed our podcast collaboration talking about Google Maps and Connect.
