CommunitySpotlight2025: Vegan Food is in the Rich Culture of Cambodia

Hello everyone, I would like to share my first experience trying vegan food. Last evening after my yoga training, I had a good time trying vegan soup at GoGreen Vegetarian Restaurant and the simple restaurant under my yoga class. Now let me describe the taste of the soup I tried, the soup without meat, but the taste was like I had meat in my mouth.

In the bowl of my soup were included many kinds of vegetables, like Chinese cabbage, pumpkin, taro, water morning glory, carrot, and mushroom, and similar ingredients designed to look like meat, and I guess those meats may be made from soybeans.

That was the first time I tried the vegan soup and deep-fried mushroom at GoGreen Vegetarian Restaurant, and the taste was very delicious and acceptable as the first experience. The location is easy to find and quite surrounded by many restaurants and also provides space for car and motorcycle parking.

In addition, I had a chance to chitchat with the owner of the restaurant, Madam Changlang Prum, and ask her about the restaurant’s signature menus, and she told me the most popular is called “Soup Rikreay,” meaning “Happy Soup,” and she also added the soup is cooked from local organic vegetables that are grown by the people in the communities.

The creative and talented entrepreneur woman also cooks the ready-to-eat vegan Soybean Kapi Pao, Fermented Soybean Paste for someone interested in vegan foods, and everyone can look for those foods at the restaurant, the Facebook page GoGreen Vegetarian Restaurant, or the business number 096 841 7077.

For somebody who wants to try vegan food, I would like to recommend the GoGreen vegetarian restaurant, and I will share the social media page and Google Map below and hope you enjoy your trip in my rich culture country.

Great read! It’s inspiring to see how vegan cuisine in Cambodia is rooted in community-grown produce and local enterprise. The description of the “Soup Rikreay” at GoGreen Vegetarian Restaurant sounds genuinely inviting and delicious, thanks for sharing this slice of culture! @sakuraengly

My favorite restaurant was Viking where I tasted the vegan food the first time and always go back. The deep fry mushrooms is unbeatable. Your post makes me miss the place and food so bad @sakuraengly

Hey Bong, @Sophia_Cambodia you are reminding me of Viking’s House restaurant, and I went there many times, and my favorite is មីឆាបន្តះដែក (in English, maybe noodles in a metal pot) and also deep-fried mushrooms too—that is so nice

You are right about those dishes @sakuraengly I also love their rice porridge បបរសាមចូក សាច់ផ្សិត. All tastes just like a regular meat. Let’s meet sometimes

Thanks for sharing this post @sakuraengly ! It is always nice to see vegetarian/vegan food getting a spotlight! I’m not vegan/vegetarian but I really do like my vegetables so I don’t always feel the urge to eat meat all the time

Out of curiosity, is vegetarian/vegan restaurants popular in Cambodia? I’m guessing that most Cambodians are meat eaters.

@AdrianLunsong Yes, vegan food is also popular in Cambodia, and many young people like vegan food. Yes, you are right, and Cambodians would like to eat meat more than vegan food.

Good discussion of vegan food @AdrianLunsong @sakuraengly the way I see it, we are not strictly vegetarian. We can eat anything and try anything, especially new dishes. So vegan food is part of the food dish we would try once or often. The restaurants do know how to attract visitors - they design the place very welcoming for meet-up or family gathering, a good background for selfie. And stuff like that. So, when we are like “… hey let’s meet, where to? How about the new vegan restaurant just opening up it has good space and internet speed  “.
