Hi, Local Guides Team and Local Guides Comunity,
Portuguese is the sixth most spoken language in the World, with around 300 million speakers, in Brazil, Portugal, Africa, and Asia. Here in Connect, we have two available tags - Portuguese (Brazilian) and Portuguese (European). My idea is to have only one tab (Portuguese), which would contemplate all varieties of Portuguese. At the same time, it will encourage integration between the lusophone community all around the World. It would also incentivize more people to read and write posts in their native language (since the same tag connects everyone).
Other reasons:
- You can now follow posts about your favorite locations on Connect. It already helps us to integrate ourselves into our regions.
- Portuguese is a unique language. The differences between all of its varieties are not so significant. Actually, when you are writing in Portuguese, the differences are minimal. It is very similar to what happens between the types of English.
- I’ve seen people from countries in Africa like Mozambique and Angola, just to cite a few, writing in Portuguese. Still, I do not feel free to suggest them to include “Brazilian Portuguese” or “European Portuguese” tags in their post.
This idea was asleep, but my friends @SarahKa and @RogerOhayashi, they helped me to bring it up, after a productive talk.

Essa ideia tem como proposta unir as tags português (brasileiro) e português (europeu) em apenas uma aba, português, o que estimularia a integração entre a comunidade lusófona.
