That morning, January 20, 2019, Sabers Pungli activists gathered in the Joglo Sate Kelinci in Beji Village, Batu City. They are not alone. There are dozens of general managers of hotels in Batu City. Also attending was the Mayor of Batu and the head of the Environmental Office of Batu City.
When hotel managers join our activities, this is what happens. They go down to the river, pick up whatever garbage is found, put it in a sack, and lift it together upward, complete with smell and dirty. There is no word that better describes it all, besides awareness involved. They consciously involved themselves in the action to fight garbage. They feel partially responsible, because the tourism industry is also the biggest contributor of waste in Batu City.
After cleaning the garbage, removing the nails in the trees, and planting trees on the banks of the river, the event continued with an ecological discussion in Kampung Lumbung Boutique Hotel, one of the hotels in Batu City that applied an environmentally friendly concept. Various furniture in the hotel uses used materials. The wood for rooms and omah lumbung (as a type of cottage) uses used wood. Practically, because wood is used, then when viewed closely, the wood is hollow with nails, pegs, or termite sculptures. Owner of Kampung Lumbung Boutique Hotel Bambang Satya Dharma has the idea of a hotel with this environmentally friendly concept. The man who heads the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI) of Batu City said that over time, the amount of used goods will increase. So there must be an effort to put a brake on it by reusing it.
Time is approaching midday, where the event must end even though many ideas have not been conveyed. There was still time in the following weeks, when these tireless activists met again. May God give us inner and outer strength to continue echoing this movement.
