[RECAP] Accessible Delhi Episode 13 Talking/Voice ATMs

The blind and vision-impaired people in Delhi need to do financial transactions at bank ATMs and they are increasingly visiting various bank ATMs and are in need of Talking/Voice ATMs.
  
These are regular ATM machines that have an additional 3.5 mm jack for inserting the headphone plug so that they can listen to the instructions without actually looking at the screen to perform transactions like withdrawing cash from the ATM, Balance Enquiry, and ATM Pin change.
 
Various bank ATMs in Delhi were visited and the following was checked:
1. Availability of a 3.5 mm audio jack.
2. Operational 3.5 mm audio jack.
3. Raised symbols on the number pad of ATM.
4. Braille letters on the push buttons on the ATM
5. ATM screens with bigger size fonts to help low-vision persons to read on-screen text.
6. Successful transactions on the ATM machine using audio/voice prompts.

How a Talking/Voice ATM works

1. To use a Talking ATM you must first locate an audio jack on the ATM machine and must insert a standard 3.5 mm headset into the audio jack to enable talking mode. A welcome audio message will be heard.
2. The ATM keypad is identical to a standard telephone keypad with a raised dot on number 5.
3. All audio instructions are in the form of Interactive Voice Response (IVR) which will guide you through the process of ATM
   transaction.
4. Towards the right side of the ATM keypad you will find a column of important keys which are:

       • Cancel: with the universal tactile shape ‘X’.
       • Enter: with the universal tactile shape ‘O’.
       • Clear: with the tactile shape ‘I’ or ‘<’.

Here's a report of checking the top 5 bank ATMs in Delhi's Mahipalpur area:

1. Punjab National Bank ATM

3. ICICI Bank ATM 01

♿  ✔️  Availability of a 3.5 mm audio jack.

♿  ✔️  Operational 3.5 mm audio jack.

♿  ✔️  Raised symbols on the number pad of ATM.

♿  ✔️  Braille letters on the push buttons on the ATM.

♿  ✔️  ATM screens with bigger size fonts to help low-vision persons to read on-screen text.

4. Axis Bank ATM

Congratulations @Tushar_Suradkar for your successful meet up. Very useful meet up in regard to Accessibility. But my question to you that is it allowed to take a photo of ATM?

Good question. Though I have no idea about the rule there neither was a board saying if it was prohibited though where ever there was a bank branch aligned to the ATM I made sure to first talk to the manager while at other ATMs I informed the security guard about the activity.

In all of my experiences whenever I involved the concerned people they were happy and curious and more than willing to let me take the photos.
