লোকাল গাইড বন্ধুরা, 

The disabled are one of the society..

২০২৪ সালের এই মার্চ মাসে  একটি একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করবো, তা হলো Accessibility নিয়ে। 

আমরা অনেকেই গুগল ম্যাপের  উন্নতির জন্য কাজ করি।  তার পাশাপাশি গুগল এ আরো অনেকগুলো বিষয় আছে। তার মধ্যে অন্যতম হলো Accessibility  নিয়ে কাজ করা। এই বিষয়ে বাংলাদেশে খুব অল্প কিছু লোকাল গাইড কাজ করছে। 

আমার কাজের আগ্রহ:

গত দুই বছর আগে, বাংলাদেশ লোকাল গাইড (#BDLG)  এর মাধ্যমে, আমি আমার এলাকায়, দুটি হুইলচেয়ার বিতরণ করি। এরপর থেকে প্রতিবন্ধী মানুষদের নিয়ে কাজ করার আগ্রহ বেড়ে যায়। তাই, আমি আমার এরিয়াতে যে সব জায়গা আছে।  এখন ও গুগল ম্যাপ এর মাধ্যমে Accessibility এ চিহ্ন যুক্ত হয় নাই। তা অচিরেই যুক্ত করবো। 

১৪ টি বিদ্যালয়ে জরিফ:

আমি, 

যেহেতু একজন লোকাল গাইড। এবং প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ে চাকরি করি। 

আমি মনে করি, 

প্রতিবন্ধীদের জন্য প্রাথমিক স্তর থেকে কাজ করার সবচেয়ে ভালো। 

এর পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে মোট 14 টি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ে জরিপ চালিয়ে 31 জন প্রতিবন্ধীকে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে। 

এদের মধ্যে কেউ বুদ্ধি প্রতিবন্ধী, কেউ শারীরিক প্রতিবন্ধী কেউ আবার ক্ষীণ দৃষ্টি সম্পন্ন। 

আমি এবং আমার টিম, আগামীতে এসব বাচ্চাদের  নিয়ে কাজ চলমান থাকবে। 

আমি আশাবাদী, আপনারা আমাদের কাজে একমত পোষণ করবেন। এবং আমাদের সাথে থাকবেন।

Perhaps it's good to know that Google is having some apps related to people with disabilities: "Lookout by Google" describes what the camera of smartphone is seeing; "android accessibility tools"  is the app that helps people with different types of accessibility issues to use their smartphone.

And if you would like to train the ai models behind "lookout by google" you also can contribute to google's crowdsource programm, especially the subjects "smart camera" and "image capture". Thanks in advance.

The wording of this post worries me a little but perhaps it is translation. People with disabilities generally don't appreciate being called out. The sentiment to support is excellent, to achieve this we need to make sure that our services and places cater to different needs without exposing those people to needing to behave or act differently to use them. As an example, it should be normal that there be a ramp, it should be normal that signage is also in braille, it should be normal that evacuation alarms use both sound and light to guide the way.

I  will not call any disabled person. We will go to all disabled people who have been surveyed by us. And I will discuss with the authorities to ease their paths in the schools.

What I meant by calling them out is identifying them. Find a way to help them without identifying them among their peers @GaziSalauddinbd
