What are #Statechallenge Meetups?
The #StateChallenge on Google Local Guides Connect is a fun, virtual quiz event that focuses on a specific topic, even though it started with specific states in the United States, now it is been expanded to various topics of interests.
History
The #StateChallenge on Google Local Guides Connect was initially started by @Denise_Barlock and @Kwiksatik in 2020.
Since May 2021, it is run by @denise_barlock and @jayasimha78. This used to be a weekly meetup, since 2024 it’s been turned in to an monthly event. Generally held on the first Saturday of the month, unless otherwise it is a holiday weekend or hosts are busy.
We often co-host events and work with other Local Guides who contribute by writing articles and co-hosting specific challenges.
How it works?
Virtual Quiz: It’s held online, typically using Google Meet and a quiz website called Factile.
Focus on topics created by Cohosts: Each challenge features a different topics (post(s) created by fellow localguide cohosts, with 30 questions and a Final bonus question, where attendees have opportunity to double their points.
Community-driven Content: Local Guides contribute by writing articles and sharing information about the featured state/region. These articles then serve as the basis for the quiz questions.
Interactive Gameplay: Participants join the Google Meet call, select an avatar, and answer multiple-choice questions within a time limit. Points are awarded for correct answers. To keep the game fresh interesting hosts change rules on how points are awarded. Sometimes you may get a bonus points even if you are only person select an incorrect answer! We also use a wheel of fortune to allow participants to double, triple or quadruple points for questions.
Learning and Connecting: It’s a great way to learn new facts, connect with other Local Guides from around the world, and have some fun.
Sign-up: To participate, you typically RSVP Meetup announced on connect. Google Meet Link will be revealed 12hrs before the event on connect.
The #StateChallenge is a popular and engaging activity within the Google Local Guides community, promoting knowledge sharing and friendly competition.
So join us for a relaxing one hour interaction with fellow localguides, in a friendly competitive environment!
If you have never cohosted a meetup this is a great opportunity to cohost. All you need to do is create a connect post with topic of interest for localguides. These days we use Google Gemini to generate Quiz questions from the posts written by localguides.
Reach out to @jayasimha78 and/or @denise_barlock if you are interested to cohost a meetup.
