UNIJE ISLAND - CROATIA - EU - Island of love, happiness and pleasure!

Waking up to the sound of waves, crickets and seagulls that faithfully await the fishermen at dawn. The smell of the sea reaching the window and the sound of rolling pebbles. The opposite of city life. A breath of life.

No cars. T

he only transportation are tractors, there are 5. In the distance: donkeys, horses, sheep, oxen and ducks complete the experience. You can feel theold way of life. The church bell tolls for noon.

Many small beaches and always one where you can be alone with your thoughts. An old abandoned lighthouse at the end of a field near the sea, a chapel at the top of a hill, in the distance - cliffs reaching 50 meters from the sea that still have WWII bunkers on top.

The island is surrounde

d by 3 small islands surrounded with wreckages of old ships and amphorae…

Unije is still an unexplored island with less than 50 inhabitants living on the island during the year. This number increases significantly during the summer months. There are not only Croatian people, but also citizens of all our neighboring countries (Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, BiH), and also some more distant countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, USA and others.

Besides beautiful natural beaches and pure natur

e, there’s not nothing much regarding touristic offer .

Unfortunately, Unije has just one shop (which works twice a day just for a few hours), one post office, a bakery (also works twice a day for a few hours), a pastry shop, a tavern and a newly opened beach bar. It has a very poor cat

ering and trade offer, and there are also missing entertainment facilities because year by year we see an increase in the number of visitors to the island by well-off guests, who have an excellent anchorage space for their sailboats and yachts in the large bay of Maracol right behind the village Unije.

Despite all that, the island is my safe place, my zen.

Love to call it island of love, happiness and pleasure. :blue_heart:

Hi @VavaN-i ,
Welcome to Local Guides Connect!

It’s great to see your photos from Unije island in Croatia! It looks so beautiful! I’ve been in Rijeka, but I haven’t visited this island yet. For me all most of the places and islands of Dalmatia are awesome for a visit. If you have the time, you can read here my post about Dubrovnik.

As I can see you are interested in photography and you take beautiful photos, I would like to suggest couple of great posts with tips you can review:
