Introduction:

This post is all about the photos contributed to Google Maps by Local Guide from all over the world. More specifically, it’s about the views that these photos rack up. It consists of a series of leaderboards showcasing the view counts of these photos. There’s a leaderboard for each Local Guide level and in this way you don’t have to be a “top gun” level 10 Local Guide with a mega million views to be featured on the Leaderboards! Whether you’re an entry level Local Guide or from a small country, town or village, or a top level Local Guide from London, New Delhi or New York, you can join in and it’s simple to do! If you want to jump on board, hit this link or just mention this in a comment in this post.

Why are photo views important?

We all know that as Local Guides we don’t get points for the views that our contributions generate! However, views are important as they give us a pretty good indication on how we are impacting on our communities at the Local Guide level. For example, they give us a good indication on how many people we have helped make a decision such as what place to visit or what meal to have. So while we don’t get points for photo views, we certainly get an awesome feeling when we see that our photos are being viewed by lots of people and being visible across Google services, like Search, means that our photo view counts can increase significantly and you will see on the Leaderboards in this post, how significant this can be.

Is this just a competition?

While there is an inherent competitive element within them, the Leaderboards are more than just about seeing who has the “best” photos or the most photo views, far from it! They have been specifically designed to motivate us, help us to monitor our contributions and performance, and show us how to improve and make better contributions so that we achieve better results, and all in a fun and enjoyable way! So do join in.

The photo in the cover image was taken by @WilfriedB , a level 9 Local Guide from Moenchengladbach, Germany. The photo is of the Church of St. Peter shot through the historical city gate of “Holzmarktturm”(aka “Steeger Tor”) built in the second half of the 14th century. It’s an eastward view to the Church [built 1230-1269] in Bacharach, also known as Bacharach am Rhein, which is a town in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Wilfried tells me that he shot this with a Sony ILCA-77M2 with 16-300mm F3.5-6.3, focal length 50.0 mm (35 mm equivalent: 75.0 mm). I’m sure that you will agree that it’s a beautiful photo. I love it. So well framed, it’s a captivating view of the church and gives a nice feeling of depth.

As Local Guides we each know the best places to visit and the photos to take in our respective locations and it is for this reason that I love featuring great photos taken by Local Guides from all over the world, and this one taken by Wilfried is yet another great example of this. Readme - How to Read the Photo Views leaderboards (September, 2024)

Briefly, this is what you need to know about the leaderboards in this post. For more details see the leaderboard documentation and the Leaderboard System’s online context-sensitive help information.

1. The leaderboards in this post present details about the photo views of hundreds of participating Local Guides from all over the world. As well as an overall leaderboard ranking the top 100 Local Guides by photo views, you will see leaderboards for different Local Guide levels which provide you with direct comparisons of your photo views achievements with that of your peers.

   There’s also a leaderboard, referred to as the Exclusive Billion Photo Views Club that highlights those heavy hitting, high views Local Guide achievers.

   Finally, there’s a leaderboard that shows the top 100 Local Guides ranked by the Average Views/Photo which gives a good indication of the overall “quality” of all photos taken by each Local Guide. This is simply calculated by dividing the Local Guide’s total photo views value by the number of publicly visible contributed photos. Of course the use of the term “quality” here refers to the attractiveness of the photos to the Google AI and the viewing public.

2. Where shown, around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this is the first time that the Local Guide has participated on the Top 100 Local Guides leaderboards.

3. Where shown, ( ) around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this Local Guide levelled up/down onto this leaderboard.

4. An asterisk (*) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Connect Moderator.

5. Double asterisks (**) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Googler.

6. Hovering over a Local Guide’s username will display the integration number that integrates that Local Guide’s details on the Leaderboards System and Connect; the umbilical chord if you will between the two disparate systems.

7. Selecting a Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile.

8. A [0] superscript following a Local Guide’s username indicates that the photo views of the respective Local Guide are most likely overstated and should be read with caution as this Local Guide has not added the Impact value of their videos contributed to Maps. In these cases the views value is also shown on a background color.
   Update::To provide a level playing field, while being included in the Top 100 Media leaderboard, Local Guides that should but don’t provide/update their video impact data will be excluded from all photo views leaderboards.

9. Local Guides suspended or who have left the Local Guides program as well as those who have hidden their Maps profile are excluded from the Photo Views Leaderboards.

10. A ? or the words “Not set” in a cell indicates that the respective value hasn’t been provided by or cannot be determined for the respective Local Guide.

11. The data for the leaderboards in this post was read at 1400 on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 (UTC).

12. If you’re a participating Local Guide you must check the leaderboards for any errors or omissions and if you find any, then please add the details in a comment on this post. Regarding omissions, please note point 9 above.

Hello everyone and we all welcome to the photo views Leaderboards @Swpetty @ajassimanwar @Knut and of course the newcomers mentioned in the specific details below.

And congratulations to @Rajatsah007 and @safni who did the perilous climb from the level 8 to level 9 photo views board and to @bkobog who, don’t ask me how, jumped from the level 6 to #2 spot on the level 7 photo views board. @marianneo managed to also climb onto this board so well done you and @Prayag-S is almost there knocking on the door

An interesting observation for me is that both @Jankes and @Jake_Lee_S appear as newcomers on the Top 100 Average Views/Media board but not so on the respective level 8 and level 7 photo views board. The same has happened in the case of @Gopinallaiyan who appears as a newcomer on the Top 100 Average Views/Photo board but not so on the level 9 photo views board. Can anyone explain to us all why?

I’m still not entering! I reached level 7 bro now I should be viewing in L7 list, haha. Aah anyways one question why don’t I get much followers while my friend has 300+ followers, and she’s less in views and level than me even tho. Also she got some charms like tshirt and a badge from Google maps. I didn’t get a single .
