Simply walking toward the mighty battleship USS Miday in San Diego in the US was an experience that gave me goosebumps.
This battleship is permanently docked at the harbor and converted into a multi-storied museum.
The entrance ticket was a steep USD 40 or INR 3400 and bought it online a month in advance. This was a 3 museums in one experience so the ticket price was worth every penny.
They had plenty of parking on the way, along the streets, and also along the length of the battleship.
On the way to the museum, there were several minor monuments on the way, like the Pearl Harbor Memorial.
As I moved closer to this enormous aircraft carrier, things started to appear very huge.
Here’s the side view of the battleship which took me a few minutes to walk past. This should give an idea of its monstrosity.
These are the giant anchor hooks of the ship and I felt amazed at the thick ropes that were used to hold the ship.
They had a formal security check, and ticket check in addition to CC TV Cameras to keep a watch remotely.
There were several ways to enter the aircraft carrier museum - an elevator, a ramp, a staircase, and gantries.
More on the internal details of the aircraft carrier in the next posts.
But on the return trip, do not forget to take a photo with the battleship in the background and also visit the Kissing Sailor Monument in the far back.
Here’s the post on the Kissing Sailor Statue.
