I took this photo of the statue of ‘Unconditional Surrender’ popularly called the Kissing Sailor during my visit to San Diego last week.
It is about 25 feet tall, and the actual size can be comprehended only upon walking close to it.
I found the pose to be graceful and it evoked strong emotions in me.
The statue is based on the famous photograph that first appeared in the 1945 Life magazine.
I visited it on way to the USS Midway Museum that is along the harbor in San Diego
I found there were plenty of shops and eateries nearby, notably among them the San Diego Fish Market and the Seaport Village.
There is also a large parking area with the rates being two dollars for 2 hours, though I simply walked from the Hostel on 3rd Avenue to this place.
The surrounding area is also beautiful, and there are also several benches installed to take a break and gaze at the harbor with the fishing boats parked there.
Accessibility Features
I noticed that several parking slots are reserved for the differently abled and marked distinctly.
Also, for those using the wheelchair, there is a leveled access from the parking to the statue.
Where to Stay?
I stayed in the Hostel on 3rd on the 3rd Avenue on Market Street in San Diego.
Other Tourist attractions in San Diego:
-
USS Midway and Musuem.
-
Gaslamp Quarters.
-
Seaport Village.

What an amazing photo of the Kissing Sailor statue…! It looks so graceful and evokes strong emotions. I love that it is inspired by the famous photograph - it is truly iconic. It is also great that the area around the statue offers plenty of shops and eateries to explore. Furthermore, it is great that there are plenty of parking options and that there is accessible entrance for those using a wheelchair. It sounds like you enjoyed your stay at the Hostel on 3rd Avenue as well. Those are all great tourist attractions and definitely worth checking out…! Thank you for this wonderful question dear @Anil6969 Ji
I was waiting for someone to ask this.
I prefer staying in hostels instead of hotels since hostels have 20 times more facilities compared to a hotel.
Hostels are cheaper too.
I paid USD 56 for 3 days 2 nights.
Comparatively most hotels are in excess of USD 100 per night.
I will write a detailed account of my stay in the hostel shortly

Yes, this is a less known place in San Diego and a must visit.
