In the third feature of our Sustainability Spotlight interview series, we are delighted to highlight Isha (@Globe_trotter_Ish), a trailblazing Local Guide from India whose journey is a short of inspiring. Recognized twice as a ‘Guiding Star’, the first woman Connect Moderator from India, and a passionate Accessibility and Meet-up Champion, Isha continues to set remarkable benchmarks in the Local Guides community. Through her initiatives, eco-friendly lifestyle, and consistent advocacy for sustainable practices both on and beyond Google Maps, she reminds us that every small step can spark meaningful change for our planet.
Here are her responses to a few questions on sustainability — in her own words.
[Q] Why do you support sustainability?
[R] I care deeply about the Earth and believe small, kind actions toward sustainability make a real difference over time.
[Q] Please mention your contributions on Google Maps related to sustainability .
[R] I make sure to mention about eco-friendliness and other sustainable options when it comes to writing reviews on Maps. I also take the apt photos that show sustainability of the business I am reviewing. I have many Lists created that showcase my love for sustainability on maps. Do check out my Maps profile to know further !
[Q] Please share your contributions related to sustainability beyond Maps.
[R] I started a series #Gogreenwithmaps on Connect in 2023 that focuses on hosting meet-ups , learning , sharing tips & knowledge and highlighting local businesses that support the environment and help us to keep our earth green n clean through posts on Connect that help keep the earth green and clean and reflect Sustainability on Maps. Apart from the meetup series, I have been writing regular posts since 2020 on various topics of Sustainability. I always make sure to buy / shop local as that reduces carbon footprint too ! I always travel in the most eco friendly way possible - like taking a bus or a carpool instead of solo driving , using and carrying my own steel cutlery to avoid using plastic spoons , etc. For me sustainability is a way of living life !
[Q] What is the impact of your contributions (on Maps and beyond Maps)?
[R] I think the biggest impact I have seen is that many people around me have now started taking recycling , re-using as their first choice now. In my recent , tree plantation drive (20 trees planted for 20 years of maps) , it was so nice to see so many local guides coming together to showcase their love for mother earth ! Many Local Guides realised that we need to start thinking 'Is it eco-firendly? whenever we buy or use any item that we wish to purchase. I also have prepared many Lists that showcase how we can show love to our local small business shops that use local produce and are also eco-friendly ! I make sure to promote eco-friendly practices to my friends and family so that it creates an impact ! Like I always say, every contribution matters and counts !
Isha’s journey beautifully reflects how passion, consistency, and small conscious choices can create a ripple effect of positive change. From championing accessibility to promoting eco-friendly practices on Maps and beyond, she proves that sustainability is not just an initiative, but a way of life. Her story reminds us that every contribution, no matter how small, matters — and together, we can move closer to a greener, more sustainable future.
