Sustainability Spotlight: Living with Purpose — Sonam’s Sustainability Journey

Sustainability becomes meaningful when small actions are practiced consistently. In this interview, @SonamW shares how her journey—from learning on the Connect Forum to contributing on Google Maps and beyond—has shaped her commitment to sustainable living. By promoting eco-friendly choices and initiating conversations on menstrual sustainability, she shows how individual efforts can spark collective impact. Her story encourages us to make sustainability a part of our everyday lives.🌱

Here are her responses to a few questions on sustainability — in her own words:

[Q]: Why do you support sustainability?
[R]: I support sustainability because I believe it is the foundation of a healthy and thriving future. It ensures a delicate balance between the environment, society, and the economy—often referred to as the three pillars of sustainability.

By protecting natural resources, promoting social well-being, and fostering economic stability, sustainability enables present and future generations to meet their needs responsibly while living in harmony with nature.

[Q]: Please mention your contributions on Google Maps related to sustainability.
[R]: I became aware of the importance of sustainability contributions on Google Maps after joining the Connect Forum in April 2025. Since then, I have been motivated to actively contribute by sharing relevant updates, reviews, and tips that promote sustainable practices.

I am continuously exploring opportunities to highlight eco-friendly places, accessibility features, and responsible choices through my contributions on Google Maps.

[Q]: Please share your contributions related to sustainability beyond Maps.
[R]: My commitment to sustainability extends beyond any single platform—it is reflected in my daily lifestyle and conscious decisions.

  • I make mindful choices in everyday life, from the food I consume to the clothes I wear.
  • I prefer eco-friendly, reusable, and less harmful products that reduce environmental impact.
  • I actively promote awareness through conversations and community engagement on sustainability-related topics.

These small but consistent efforts shape my broader contribution toward a sustainable future.

[Q]: What is the impact of your contributions (on Maps and beyond Maps)?
[R]: Recently, I began contributing to menstrual sustainability after recognizing a gap in discussions on this important yet often overlooked topic within the community.

The response has been truly encouraging:

  • Many Local Guides joined the conversation and engaged openly.
  • Some felt inspired to share their own experiences and perspectives.
  • Others extended their support to strengthen the initiative.

What started as a small step has grown into meaningful dialogue and collaboration, making the impact both inspiring and significant.

This is remarkable, @SharmaK ji.
She deserves credit for her work on this subject. Bravo! @SonamW.

Not many people would have dared to touch this topic, but she was brave enough to think about this topic for herself and made an impact here. It is a very important subject of our society untouched for many years. I am confident that she will do justice to make a change in the community.

Cheers!

You are doing truly inspiring work, @SonamW, through practical initiatives that are creating meaningful social and environmental impact. Congratulations on successfully organizing the workshop-format meet-up earlier this year, focused on hygiene awareness and sustainable living practices.

Your workshop on Sustainable Menstrual Pads & Cups was a remarkable step toward promoting eco-friendly alternatives, reducing environmental waste, and encouraging better hygiene and long-term sustainability :recycling_symbol:. Through such efforts, you are empowering the community to make informed and environmentally conscious choices for a healthier future.

Thank you for your valuable contributions toward sustainability and social awareness. Your dedication is motivating many others to adopt responsible and eco-friendly practices.

Special thanks to @SharmaK as well for thoughtfully highlighting Sonam’s impactful efforts.
