Hello Local Guides…!
On this ongoing celebration of Women’s Day , I want to celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and passion of women entrepreneurs. Inspired by @Globe_trotter_Ish Lets Empower women owned business and @Rahul001 's series of Supporting women owned business, I couldn’t resist sharing the inspiring story of Mrs. Shakuntala Joil, a 72-year-old woman with an incredible passion for cooking. She started Hoy Maharaja Kitchen in Devgad, Maharashtra, turning her love for food into a thriving business.
Hoy Maharaja Kitchen is located near Flying Konkan (the first coastal zipline). After experiencing the giant swing, ziplining, exploring the garden, and visiting the fort, your stomach will surely crave some delicious food. And trust me, Hoy Maharaja is the perfect place to satisfy your taste buds! Though their specialty is seafood, their vegetarian options won’t disappoint and will leave you just as satisfied.
The owner and her daughter are super friendly. Shankuntala ma’am is amazing cook. The place has a beautiful, homely, native-style ambiance and is also wheelchair accessible. The setting perfectly captures the essence of an authentic village, making you feel like you’ve stepped away from city life. The kitchen is clean and well-maintained, ensuring hygiene.
One of the best things about this place is its commitment to supporting local women. They provide opportunities for women to work and earn a livelihood through the kitchen. Isn’t it truly empowering?
Kudos to the mother-daughter duo for making this place so special!
Shakuntala ma’am is very jolly person, here’s what she has to say:
What inspired you to start your own business?
[Mrs. Shakuntala] : I have always loved cooking and serving people. It brings me joy to see customers enjoy my food. I wanted to create a space where people could taste authentic flavors and feel at home. Age was never a barrier, my family believed in my passion, and that gave me the courage to take the first step!
What message do you want to share with other women entrepreneurs on Women’s Day?
[Mrs. Shakuntala] : Age, background, or circumstances should never stop you from chasing your dreams. If you have a passion, start small but start today. You are stronger than you think!
How do you use Google Maps to promote your business and connect with customers?
[Mrs. Shakuntala] : My kids manage the Google Maps listing for Hoy Maharaja, making it easy for people to find us. Customers leave reviews, which helps others discover our food and experience.
How do you support Local Women-Owned Businesses?
[Mrs. Shakuntala] : I buy ingredients from women vendors and local farmers. Many women work alongside me in the kitchen, making it a space where they can earn and grow together.
Many Thanks to Shakuntala ma’am and Vaishnavi for their time and yummy food…!
