We all know that small businesses are the heartbeat of our communities. They help other businesses to thrive and bring character to our neighborhood and provide us with unique experiences. As a local guide, we have a unique superpower, the ability to help and support small businesses thrive through our contributions on Google Maps. But it goes beyond writing reviews ; when we come together for a challenge, our collective impact speaks volume.
From supporting local women-owned 
businesses on Google Maps by @Globe_trotter_Ish to promoting sustainable businesses through eco-friendly 
spoons by @KetanChhaniyara, our community has shown incredible dedication to supporting diverse and eco-friendly local businesses through various challenges. These challenges do more than just generate contribution points ; they drive interactions and give a helping hand to places that need it most.
How our Challenge supports Local Businesses : A Success Story 
To show you the real-world impact of our challenges, I want to share a heartwarming update. Do you remember Treesa, the talented owner of Tree of Treats (a pudding & cake store)? We highlighted & supported her work during the Beat the Heat 
Challenge by @MathanVibranarayan with Home-Made Puddings 
.
Back then, Treesa was a home baker ; passionately creating delicious treats and selling her products from her home. I am thrilled to share that she has grown her business and recently opened her very own physical shop.
The visibility she gained on Maps played a crucial role in this transition. Treesa shared below feedback with me regarding the Local Guides’ impact :
"I got more customers because of the valuable edits to my business profile. In fact, the increase in orders is what gave me the confidence and resources to finally open my own physical shop! To the Local Guides community : thank you so much. Your support and reviews truly help small businesses like mine grow and reach the next level.”
This is exactly why we do what we do. By updating business details, adding photos and writing detailed reviews during our challenges, we are directly contributing to the livelihoods of our neighbors.

While I don’t have data proving my comments directly impact business or sales, I strive to post content “for customers visiting the store for the first time.”
For example, how to get there by train or bus, or which route is a shortcut.
I’ve actually received feedback from store owners appreciating this approach.
