Story of small village of Bihar : Merahi

Dear Local Guides,

Ladies and gentlemen, keep a water bottle nearby and fasten your seat belt, today’s stories are going to be very amazing.
I am going to tell you a story which is of my village in Siwan district of Bihar state. You must have heard the slogans of local for vocal and Jai Kisan and Jai Jawan in our country India. There are still many such villages in India where there is no facility of electricity, water, education, hospitality and internet.

Being from Bihar means that you are useless, you don’t know how to talk. In other words, you are an Gawar in Bhojpuri language. In such a situation, if someone comes forward to fight against the system and the government, everyone considers him a fool, especially in a state like Bihar.

The situation in my village was also similar. Now things have improved a bit, it may not be the best but it is better than before.
Right now everything is in a good condition. Roads have been built, electricity is good, water is available, solar systems have been installed, new-new shops & stores have opened.

I completed the remaining work like getting Wi-Fi installed for internet and making all the stores in the village online. I am telling here the stories of some stores and shops of my village.

  1. Shiv Mandir (Lord Shiva Temple)
This is the very oldest temple of my village Merahi. Now it’s in contraction phase. When it’s completed, I assure you all that will update here. See it on Google Maps.

  1. Rajkiya Prathmik Vidhyalaya (Primary School)
This is also very old but I don’t have its photos but I am uploading new photos but first know about the school. Earlier there were no rooms to study here or there were 2 in which students used to study after 4th or 5th standard, earlier books were available for free. Now it has become even better, new class rooms, new infrastructure, new design books with QR code or URL, Mid-day meals, scholarship and a lot more. If anyone help me to add images on school maps on Google. See it on Google Maps.

  1. Brahmsthan (also called Braham Baba)
Basically, it is a Peepal tree which is worshipped, usually it is found outside the village. In many places it is also called Brahma Baba.
Braham Baba - Near Shiv Mandir, Sharmaji Chowk Road, Merahi, Bihar, 841240
Brahmsthan - Near Chhathi Maiya, Dibi-Merahi Road, Merahi, Bihar, 841240

  1. Kali Mata Mandir
This temple was outside the village although now people have started building houses near it. It is a good place to visit, there is a small field where children play. See it on Google Maps.

  1. Coaching by Madam Master Ji.
Madan Sir has been running this coaching centre since 1997. Sometimes he takes money and sometimes he teaches without money. See it on Google Maps.

He is recently started his shop for all things like groceries to cosmetic products. Here on Google Maps.

  1. Ram Janki, Durga, Shiv Mandir
I thought, this temple is identity of our village. This is a temple, we worship it anyway, but it is in front of our village, so for location strength it is our identity. What do you say, it becomes our landmark.
In this temple, there are idols of Shri Ram Ji, Maa Jaki, Hanuman Ji, Radhe Krishna as well as Shiv Ji. Fairs are held here during Mahashivratri and Durga Puja. Please check the location here.

  1. Chhath Puja Ghat
According to the scriptures, there is another Surya Dev who is also seen to be directly connected to the Sun God. The name of the father of the Sun God is Maharishi Kashyap and the name of the mother is Aditi. The name of his wife is Sangya, who is the daughter of Vishwakarma. Sangya had a son named Yam and a daughter named Yamuna and from his second wife Chhaya, he got a great son named Shani.

In Chhath Puja, Chhath Maiya is also worshiped along with the Sun God. Who is also known as Shashthi Devi. Mother Shashthi Devi is worshipped as the goddess of God. She is considered to be the daughter of Brahma.

She is also known as Maa Katyayani. It is said. Whose worship is done on the sixth day of Navratri Shasthi Devi Maa is worshipped as the goddess of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and In Jharkhand, it is called Chhath Maiya in the local language. Chhathi Mata Mention of worship of is also found in Brahmavaivarta Purana.

According to the story of Ramayana, when Ram ji returned to Ayodhya with Goddess Sita and Lakshman ji after killing Ravana, Mother Sita kept a fast on Shashthi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month and worshipped Goddess Shashthi and Sun God for the peace and happiness of the family. Apart from this, in Dwapar Yuga, Draupadi also kept a fast on Shashthi to protect her husbands and to get back her lost kingdom.

Thank you for a virtual tour of this wonderful and little-known town in Bihar @giteshsharma
The photos look amazing and adorable :+1:
I loved all the collages and they tempt me to visit this place sometime in the future.

The bit about uselessness is true for almost all small towns, but it is all good if people keep themselves busy and earn a livelihood at their own pace

Are the young and cheerful guys in the group photo your friends?
Invite them to contribute to LG Connect and also for a meetup.

Thank you for your kind words! It’s wonderful to see how our village is evolving, and I’m excited for what the future holds. The new wifi will certainly help with development, but it’s limited only for 25m from my home (not from government, but might be soon) and we’re looking forward to completing the temple soon.

You have provided a lot of insight to the small village… this situation may be there in many states of India and international countries too.

Happy to read that you have minimum facilities in your Village… great!

I’m from rural Kerala settled in Bangalore… The joy I get when I go to my native village is beyond words. Yes, now we are used to modern facilities but still love our native place.

Thanks for sharing these details… dear @giteshsharma
All the best
