Dear Local Guides,
Greetings!!
How are you, please let me know by commenting. Today is World Sparrow Day, I too had lost it or forgotten it, I remembered it when I saw someone’s status. It is just like the Goraiya species has been lost somewhere.
House sparrows, known as “Goraiya (गौरैया)” in Hindi, are common in North India but their numbers have decreased due to urbanization, pesticide use, and lack of nesting sites.

Unlike other subspecies, North Indian house sparrows are mostly migratory, wintering in the northern Indian subcontinent’s plains. The Eurasian tree sparrow occupies settlements, while house sparrows are found in open areas. House sparrows have an average lifespan of 4-5 years, are sociable, and primarily eat grains, seeds, and livestock feed.
(#2, Goraiya - Sparrow, Merahi Village, Siwan, Bihar, IN)
In India, sparrows symbolize shared history and culture, with various names across different languages. Sparrows’ decline in urban areas is attributed to habitat loss, pesticides, and food scarcity.
