September brought a wave of exciting feature rollouts, high-energy mapping initiatives, and vital community policy updates across Google Maps and Local Guides Connect. Whether you are tracking the reach of your reviews, mapping new paths, or curating community lists, here is a breakdown of the top 5 updates from this past month.

  1. Forum Restrictions (Connect Only): Some profile now displays a “silenced by Discourse AI” status on the Local Guides Connect platform, it indicates that the forum’s automated spam detection system has temporarily restricted the user’s account.
While silenced, the user cannot create new topics, reply to existing threads, or send private messages on the Connect forum. Any recent posts that triggered the AI filter are also temporarily hidden from public view. The Connect forum and Google Maps operate on completely separate moderation systems. Being silenced by Discourse AI on Connect does not affect the user’s Google Maps account. The user retains their Local Guide level, points, and the ability to upload photos, reviews, and edits on Google Maps. Please find @AdamGT’s post here This user is silenced!

  2. AI-Generated Content Declaration Rule (Connect Platform): To maintain authenticity within the community, a new policy was introduced requiring all Local Guides to explicitly declare any AI-generated content used in their Connect posts.
Find @MortenCopenhagen’s post here - AI generated Connect content now need to be declared

  3. Contribution Stats Restructuring (Google Maps): Google Maps streamlined how it tracks user contributions by merging the standalone “Facts checked” metric into the broader “Answers” category. ,Find @Latika_Malhotra’s post here - Merging “Facts checked” into “Answers”

  4. “See Impact” Button Rollout (Google Maps): As announced by @Latika_Malhotra on the Connect platform, a new “See Impact” button is rolling out on user profiles. This dedicated feature allows you to directly track the reach, views, and helpfulness of your reviews, photos, and map edits to see exactly how your contributions are guiding others. Here’s the post Link - More data and a new home for your photo views

  5. TORM 2026 Challenge Announcement (Connect Platform): On September 22, the TORM 2026 (TRAC On Road Mapper Season 2) challenge was announced. Kicking off on October 1st, this community-driven event invites Local Guides with Road Mapper access to collaboratively map and track their progress as a team using the roaders.club leaderboard. Adding 6th major update after Adam’s suggestion

  1. Badge Stats Transitioning to Private View A recent UI update in September 2026 began shifting badge statistics and detailed gamification metrics to a private view. Please find @AdamGT’s post highlighting the same -

Which of these September updates has had the biggest impact on your mapping routine?

Dari semua , yang saya belum pernah melihat di poin no 1. Keren @Manishhh , teliti banget. Terima kasih :folded_hands:t2:

An interesting idea @Manishhh to summarise the BIG updates on Maps and Connect in the previous month. Perhaps you missed Are Badge Stats Becoming Private? A New UI Observation where it was discovered that a policy change means that achievement badge stats are no longer displayed on public Maps profiles.

wow, thank you for reminding @AdamGT , i completely missed this one, added now:)

Thanks for sharing these very important updates @Manishhh
Though I must say that the option to restrict viewing other Local Guides contributions are baffling, if their profile is already public. Hope the Google team reverses this particular update.

It’s nice to see all these updates in a single post @Manishhh!

I experienced #3 and think its a good idea.
Heard about #4 but don’t see it on my profile.
Actively involved in #5 since October started.
#6 is annoying, as I can no longer see other LGs badge details.

Insightful for many of us @Manishhh

ICYMI = In Case You Missed It!

Very helpful summarisation! @Manishhh
