South Asia Meetup 26: A Legacy That Continues to Bring Local Guides Together
Among the many unforgettable moments of Connect Live 2026, hosting South Asia Meetup 26 was undoubtedly one of the most meaningful experiences for me. More than just a meetup, it became a celebration of friendship, cultural diversity, collaboration, and the incredible spirit of the Local Guides community.
A Warm Start to a Memorable Morning
On July 30, 2026, immediately after breakfast at the Hotel Amara breakfast area in Singapore, we began our much-anticipated South Asia Meetup 26.
As Local Guides started arriving, I had the pleasure of welcoming everyone personally. It was wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces, meet many first-time participants, exchange warm greetings, and start conversations that instantly created a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Within a short time, the breakfast area transformed into a vibrant gathering filled with smiles, laughter, inspiring conversations, and the excitement of meeting fellow Local Guides from around the world.
From South Asia to a Truly International Gathering
Although the meetup was called South Asia Meetup 26, it was never intended to be limited to South Asia alone.
This year, we were delighted to welcome Local Guides from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, and several other countries.
Despite our different languages, cultures, and backgrounds, we all shared one common passion—making Google Maps more helpful for everyone.
Throughout the meetup, we exchanged mapping experiences, discussed community initiatives, shared ideas for future collaborations, and learned from one another. These conversations reminded us that the Local Guides program is much more than contributing to Maps—it is about connecting people and building lasting friendships across borders.
Why Is It Still Called “South Asia Meetup”?
Several participants asked why we continue to use the title South Asia Meetup even though the meetup now welcomes Local Guides from many countries across Asia and beyond.
The answer lies in its history.
The Bangladesh Local Guides Community proudly introduced the first South Asia Meetup in 2017 with the goal of strengthening friendships and collaboration among Local Guides in the region. Over the years, the meetup has naturally grown into an international gathering while preserving its original identity.
Keeping the same title and banner is our way of honoring that journey and celebrating the community that started it.

A Small Gift from Bangladesh
As the meetup came to an end, the Bangladesh Local Guides Community presented every participant with a Bangladesh Local Guides Stamp Book and chocolates as a small token of appreciation.
It was a simple gesture, but one that carried our gratitude, friendship, and love from Bangladesh. We hope these small souvenirs will serve as lasting reminders of the wonderful memories we created together.
Looking Ahead
What began as a regional initiative in 2017 has now grown into a meetup where Local Guides from many countries gather to celebrate friendship, collaboration, and our shared passion for improving Google Maps.
For me, South Asia Meetup is no longer just the name of an event—it represents a legacy of community building, cultural exchange, and friendships that continue to grow across borders.
