Pre-Match Heritage Food Walk: Chandni Chowk, Delhi for IPL Fans 🍲 🏏

Hello Local Guides!

Following the call of @Latika_Malhotra in her post How to support major sports events - Plus: An IPL challenge for India!,here I am excited to share a specialized food guide for cricket fans visiting Delhi this April!

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicks off, the energy in Delhi is electric! This season, 7 IPL matches are scheduled in Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium with recent matches scheduled on April 4th (Delhi Capitals vs. Mumbai Indians) and April 8th (Delhi Capitals vs. Gujarat Titans), thousands of fans will be descending upon the heart of the city.

While most fans come for the boundaries and wickets, I believe the real “Man of the Match” is the food waiting just a few metro stations away.

Beyond the Boundary: The Magic of Old Delhi

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is just 4 km. away from Chandni Chowk, the historic heart of Old Delhi. As someone who has organized several heritage and food walks here— I can tell you that the experience of a match is incomplete without tasting the legacy of shops that have been serving Delhiites for over 150 years.

Smart Travel Tips for Fans

Navigating the crowd during evening matches can be tricky. Here is my pro-tip for getting around:

  • For the Stadium: Use the Delhi Gate (Violet Line) or ITO metro stations.
  • For the Food: While there is a Chandni Chowk metro station, I recommend getting off at the Lal Quila (Red Fort) metro station which is only 5 minutes away from Delhi Gate Metro station, much more convenient and puts you just a 5-minute walk away from the most iconic food lanes of Chandani Chowk.

My IPL Challenge List

I have curated a special Google Maps list for visiting fans following the call of Googler Latika_Malhotra

This list isn’t just a collection of pins; it’s a selection of spots I have personally tested and verified through my experience. From legendary paranthas to famous sweets, these are the “Local Gems” that will turn your match-day into an unforgettable journey.

Whether you are supporting the Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, or the Gujarat Titans, don’t miss the chance to explore like a local. Grab a bite before the evening match starts and soak in the 17th-century charm of Shahjahanabad!

Great initiative following @Latika_Malhotra mam’s challenge @SharmaK sir! :handshake::+1:t3:

The graphic for ‘Delhi: Cricket & Cuisine’ looks professional and very inviting. Using the Violet Line to Delhi Gate is definitely the smartest way to beat the match-day traffic. Looking forward to seeing the recap of the fans who take on this heritage walk! :stadium::sparkles:

One of my personal favorites I still fondly remember from our Scavenger Hunt meet-up is Natraj Dahi Bhalla, such a treat!

BTW, I liked your cover photo depicting the true spirit of the theme.
