As we speak, the air is thick with excitement, some of our friends have already received their invitations for Connect Live 2026, while others are still eagerly waiting for that prestigious invite. It is a dream we all share, and to everyone, including myself, I wish you all the very best! (And a huge congratulations to those who have already started packing their bags for Dublin, Singapore & Mexico !)
As you may have seen in my previous posts, Mauritius Diaries Part 1 and Mauritius Diaries 2, this post is the third chapter of a journey that remains etched in my soul.
For me, Mauritius was never just a destination on a map, it was a soul-stirring romance with nature. Every road I traveled felt like a path to self-discovery, every meal shared felt like a celebration of life, and every drop of tropical rain felt like a blessing from the heavens. This trip wasn’t just a holiday, it was a deep, emotional connection that changed how I see the world.
If you visit Mauritius and miss the miracle I am about to describe, I believe you will carry a silent regret in your heart forever. This was my 4th day on the island, a day I had been dreaming about for years. I discussed my long-held wish with my incredible host, my best friend and wonderful person, @SwetaDhondoo . It was through her boundless kindness, hospitality, and guidance that I was finally able to stand face-to-face with a true miracle of nature The Chamarel Seven Colored Earth Geopark.
The Journey into the Heart of Greenery :
The journey from Rose Hill, Beau Bassin, to Chamarel is a scenic 41-kilometer drive that takes about an hour, but every minute is a visual treat. As we left Beau Bassin, the breeze from the famous Flic-en-Flac beach seemed to whisper stories of the ocean (don’t worry, I’ll share those stories soon!).
We took a brief, exhilarating pause at Casela Nature Parks, often hailed as the crown jewel of nature parks in Mauritius. Though we only stayed for a few minutes to capture the vibrant energy of the place, our hearts were already racing for the main destination.
From there, the road wound upwards toward the majestic Chamarel Waterfall
.
The Majestic Chamarel Waterfall: A Symphony of Power
Standing at approximately 100 meters (over 300 feet) high, the Chamarel Waterfall is the highest on the island and, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful in the world. Formed by three distinct streams of the River St. Denis, it tumbles over ancient volcanic cliffs into a lush, emerald-green jungle pool.
The view was nothing short of breathtaking. Even from the lookout point, you could feel the raw power of the water, the mist and foam rose into the air like a silver veil. I stood there in silence, trying to capture this ethereal beauty not just with my lens, but deep within my heart. It felt as if the waterfall was singing a song of the island’s ancient history. I wrote a detailed Google Maps review about this majestic Waterfall, you can check here.
A Geological Wonder: The Seven Colored Earth
Just a short, winding drive away, we reached the pièce de résistance, a place I consider a true wonder of the world.
Upon arrival, the first thing that moved me was the sight of
wheelchair-accessible
parking. As a Local Guide, seeing such a world-class attraction being made
inclusive and accessible for everyone warmed my heart deeply.
Walking toward the Chamarel Café, I finally saw it, the site I had only ever admired in photographs. The Seven Coloured Earth is a surreal natural phenomenon where sand dunes comprise seven distinct, vibrant colors, red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow.
These hues evolved through the conversion of basaltic lava into clay minerals over millions of years.
The most mind-blowing part? If you take these different colored sands and mix them together, they will eventually settle back into their separate, distinct layers!
It is a geological mystery that continues to intrigue scientists.
These lunar-like dunes never erode, staying perfectly preserved despite the island’s torrential rains. Seeing this was like stepping onto another planet, a masterpiece painted by God Himself. Here you can see my Google maps review about this stunning wonder of the world.
Meeting the Giants and Local Wisdom
As I explored further, I encountered the Giant Tortoises. Seeing the enclosures with hatchlings being nurtured alongside their mothers was a beautiful reminder of the circle of life. Some of these magnificent creatures are over 50 years old, moving with a slow, graceful wisdom that makes you want to stop and appreciate the present moment.
My host and Guide, @SwetaDhondoo , shared a fascinating insight that 30 years ago, visitors could actually walk on the colored dunes.
While the thought of touching that “rainbow earth” sounds magical, I deeply respect the management’s decision to fence the area.
Preserving this treasure ensures that its beauty remains pristine for generations to come.
The Spiritual Descent
As the clock struck 4:00 PM, we began our descent. We missed the last entry for the Curious Corner of Chamarel, but fate had something better in store. Sweta stopped the car at an elevated viewpoint as we drove down the mountains. Looking down at the island from that height was a spiritual experience. The tiny houses, the vast sugarcane fields, the majestic peaks, and the infinite sky meeting the ocean, it was a moment of pure, unadulterated peace.
We ended our day at the Cascavelle Shopping Mall, sharing a lovely dinner and reflecting on the magic we had just witnessed.
My Thoughts about Mauritius to my Local Guide Family
Every day in Mauritius was grand, but this day was sacred. Mauritius didn’t just give me a trip, it gave me a sense of belonging. I left Chamarel with a full heart and a soul that felt lighter.
To my fellow Local Guides, I pray you all get to experience the magic of this island. Document it, review it, and let the world see Mauritius through your passionate eyes. If you go, make the Seven Colored Earth your priority. It won’t just be a photo in your gallery, it will be a lifetime memory in your soul.
Until the next post in the Mauritius Diaries series!
