A Hidden Gem Near Black River Gorges Mauritius 🇲🇺 : A Moment of Pure Serenity on My Journey - Mauritius Diaries Part 5

Hello Local Guides,
The journey to Mauritius has always held a very special place in my heart, because I love this island endlessly and consider it my second home.
Last year marked my third visit to Mauritius, and every single time I return, every path and every turn brings a new story to unfold. Today, I am sharing a deeply cherished and emotional slice of that journey with you, a memory from the second-last day of my Mauritius trip.

A Shortage of Time and a Priceless Moment of Nature

When it is the second-last day of a trip, the heart feels a restless anxiety knowing how many places are still left to see. But far heavier than that was the sadness of knowing I had to leave the next day, and the thought of parting from the unforgettable hospitality showered upon me by @SwetaDhondoo and her respectable family made it even harder. Just the realization that I would be leaving Mauritius the following day filled my heart with melancholy.

This was the day right before my departure from Mauritius, as we were traveling toward Ganga Talao, a journey whose detailed post you will soon witness, marking the final episode of this Mauritius Diaries travelogue.

Along the way, I had already noted this charming spot. My wonderful host and friend, @SwetaDhondoo and family, who brought me on this trip, had already said, “We will definitely stop here on our way back.” And indeed, her decision turned out to be completely right.

Black River Gorges National Park is the most favorite and popular destination for hikers and adventurers visiting Mauritius. However, due to a shortage of time, it was simply not possible for me to fully explore this vast national park. But so what? If I couldn’t see the entire park, did the magic of this beautiful destination diminish? Absolutely not! Stopping for a short while in a small yet breathtakingly gorgeous corner of this magnificent park filled my soul with such profound peace.

Standing there, it genuinely felt as though our presence had been registered here too, our heartfelt hazri (attendance) had been marked!

Mauritius: Much More Than Just Beaches

Most people think Mauritius is only famous for its stunning beaches, but the truth is that the true soul and beauty of this island lie hidden in its offbeat spots. Whether it is the vibrant energy of the Caudan Waterfront, the bustling local markets, the rolling green & colourful mountains stretching into the distance, or the breathtaking waterfalls appearing unexpectedly along the road, nature changes its magnificent forms at every single step here.

During your travels, you encounter countless such spots where you can spend hours without a single worry, completely losing yourself in the vibrant colors of nature.

A Hidden Spot Straight Out of a Calendar Picture

This location is one of those open yet hidden points in Mauritius that, at first glance, makes you feel as though you are looking at a picturesque scene straight out of a tourist calendar brought to life.

Under the Shade of Trees and a Peaceful Atmosphere

Situated right by the main highway, this spot is surrounded on all sides by tall, lush green trees and dense foliage. Coming here genuinely makes you feel as though all the hustle and bustle of the world has been left far behind. You can sit here in absolute silence for a long time, gazing at the spreading waters before you and the raw beauty of nature, bowing your head in praise and gratitude to the Almighty. The cool breeze beneath the open sky and the rustling of leaves overhead bring an unmatched, tranquil peace to the heart.

Ice Gola / Shaved Ice Cone: Childhood Memories and Sweetness

This delightful stopover was made even more memorable by a small gesture from Sweta. Right there by the roadside, a traditional ‘Gola Ganda’ was being prepared on an ice-shaver machine. Sweta eagerly ordered this delicious shaved ice treat, which was beautifully and artfully decorated with colorful, sweet syrups. That cup of green, yellow, and red shaved ice, along with its wonderful flavor, added an extra layer of charm to the beauty of our trip. The laughter and lighthearted atmosphere of that moment remain completely fresh in my memory.

Here you can check my Google maps review about this amazing park

Mauritius is not just a destination; it is an emotion, a profound love that only grows deeper in the heart with time. This little stopover along the road to Black River Gorges will always remain closest to my soul.
