¡Qué rápido se pasó la semana! ¿No les parece? Les hemos mostrado apenas un poco de la inmensa riqueza cultural que México tiene para compartir… ¡pero no se preocupen! Seguramente en el futuro tendremos más Meet-ups e iniciativas para compartir con ustedes lo hermoso de nuestro país.
Empezamos nuestra Semana Spotlight con una breve descripción de los orígenes del equipo #LocalGuidesMexico , una descripción de nuestro país y les presentamos a los guías que tuvieron el gusto de acompañarnos en este viaje por México.
Luego les presentamos tres lugares turísticos súper populares y después seguimos con un recorrido de los llamados “Pueblos Mágicos” (Magical Towns): aprendimos por qué se llaman así y los elementos que los distinguen de otros pueblos no considerados “mágicos”.
El cuarto día probamos la gastronomía mexicana y conocimos sus elementos más característicos. Posteriormente hablamos de tres tradiciones mexicanas que nos encantan … y cerramos con broche de oro con la que consideramos es nuestra mejor y más icónica tradición: Día de Muertos.

For Indonesian Spotlight Week, I made a story about volcanoes in Indonesia. We have the similarities, and one of them is about volcano. In my opinion, one of the most terrifying but interesting story is the formation of Mount Paricutin.

Could you share a bit of your experience with using Kahoot? I’m just wondering if it’s something the wider community could look into and use as well, if it’s suitable.

what limitations are there? For instance, can the Kahoot quiz remail active/open only for a set number of days?
Of course! I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Kahoot to whoever wants to gamificate any activity or as a review after any kind of lesson. Personally I used to have Kahoot matches in class as a closing game after each month (remember I’m a language teacher) during the lockdown, when all of the classes went online. It’s fun and challenging because there’s a limited amount of seconds!
Since then it has changed quite a lot, so now that I came back to the account I found a couple of nice surprises.
There is a free and three more levels of accounts according to what you are willing to pay. And according to the type of account you have, the features you’ll be able to use. Since I’m not in online courses anymore, I stayed with a free account, that’s why only ten people per match could play this time; but if someone plans to use it often, it would be worth paying for it, according to the amount of people they are planning to play each session. And, of course, if it was a partnership like the one there was with Let’s Roam, I’m quite sure there would be even more.
Matches can be played live, or asigned (as the one you played). If you choose to asign one, you as the creator of the Kahoot can give up to three weeks for it to be solved (but I suggest that you don’t give more than one week… people often forget about the asignment if you give them too much time.)
yes, I find it quite user friendly and can be played with an app.
Activities available according to the type of account:
The kind of answers: the #LocalGuidesMexico Kahoot was made from a free account, that’s why there were only multiple-choice answers. With other kinds of account, other kinds of answers can be used (open answers, fill-in the gap, etc)
As the creator of a Kahoot game, you can see the report of the people who played, which questions they got correct and their scores. However, if the account is free, you’ll only be able to see some of them: the highest scores in each match.
One of the surprises was the “Language learning” feature; but that’s only available for paid accounts, so I haven’t seen it.
In a nutshell: yes, I strongly believe that the community could get value and some fun from Kahoot; that’s why I proposed it for closing Mexico’s Community Spotlight. How worth it is to be paid would depend on how often you expect to use the account and how many people would play in each session.
