Like hidden reviews, hidden photos are an issue encountered by many Local Guides. Much has been written about this issue and how best to manage it - see, for example, the topics listed here and the more recent I Deleted 1137 Photos—And Lost 3.4 Million Views: Here’s What I Learned topic by @Trail_blazer (@tony_b here and @IzzyOz here)
Like many Local Guides, to manage hidden reviews and photos, I use some of the tools available in the Top 100 Leaderboard System. The T100 System has many inbuilt powerful extensions that help you monitor and manage your Maps contributions, and two of these in particular, the Stats Summary and the Hidden Photos extensions, make the monitoring and managing of hidden reviews and hidden photos a much simpler task.
After reading @Trail_blazer recent post about deleting irrelevant photos, and the helpful comments there from @WilfriedB and Connect Moderator @AdamGT, I decided to clean up my photo contributions, but instead of doing it all in one big hit, I decided to do it methodically and in a step-by-step way. This is the approach I took:
First, the T100 System Stats Summary and Hidden Photos reports indicated that I currently had 455 hidden photos. I noticed that some of these photos were uploaded in the last six months and had accumulated views. Further, I noticed the majority of these photos are showing up under 70 unknown places. The Maps AI had hidden them, and the reason for this action isn’t clear.
Next, I checked my Maps contributions data on the Top 100 System and confirmed its accuracy against the actual data on Maps.
The workflow was:
Copied and pasted the T100 System Stats Summary to a Google Sheet,
@Kumaarsantosh post here helped me identify the hidden photos.
Deleted 18 photos from 15 POIs on 18/04/2025.
I then checked the Top 100 Maps data and confirmed that the deletions were reflected without any delay.
I planned the 2nd phase of cleanup and followed the help commands provided in the Stats Summary (Beta version) of the Top 100 System and deleted 15 photos from 8 POI on 25/04/2025.
Next, I checked the T100 System’s Stats Summary and confirmed the deletion is reflected in the Stats Summary Delta column without delay.
The comparative table is provided below:
It’s easy to use features like this that make this System so powerful and useful.
This is a powerful feature of the T100 System. The data is instantly updated without the need for manual input.
My conclusions:
The Top 100 System made it easy for me to see the before-and-after impact without much effort. Thank you, @AdamGT, for providing this helpful feature.
I will do the next cleaning activity in a few days.
