Erbil is the capital of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq. I split my time between my home in Erbil, and traveling for research around the KR and the Middle East. It is an amazing region to call home, and as an expatriate it has always amazed how welcoming people are whether they are Kurdish, Assyrian, Ezidi, Arab, Jewish, Turkish, Persian, Turkomani, Druze, or any of the many other nations for whom this region is a fatherland.
I do a lot of activism and civic engagement, and Google Maps has been a great way to show a positive image of the region to the world. By making lists, writing reviews, and contributing photos it has been possible to hopefully make at least one person say, “Wow, that is surprising. I have to go and see for myself!”
And I always keep something close to my heart: none of us are safe, until all of us are safe. I like to think that we can feel that with how Maps helps make the world a slightly smaller place.

What I love about being a local guide : Bringing something a bit ‘extra’ to a location. I do a lot of rural and nature photography, and had noticed over time a lot of smaller towns don’t have very good representation to Google Maps, so that’s been a focus. As I’ve been giving thought to heading towards real-estate photography myself, it’s been a great practice medium. Focus of my contributions is towards quality over quantity.
Fun Facts About Me : Love my birds, bees, bugs, mountains, rivers, you get it… I may not quite be Nat-Geo quality, but I sure have a lot of fun pretending… I’m probably a little odder than most.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BEING A LOCAL GUIDE: Well, I am new to this but I totally see the value in being a member, and accessing other members’ posts, of Local Guides Connect.
MY FAVORITE THING TO EXPLORE: Beaches, the soothing sounds and waves of beaches, collecting shells on the beaches, laying out in the sun on beaches, and some of the beaches I have visited have semi-lengthy rock climbing. Every summer, for years, I have gone to the beaches but of all the beaches I have been to my favorite is at St. Lucia. This year I am hoping to explore another exotic beach that has mountain trails and a lot of sunshine.
FUN TWO FACTs ABOUT ME: I own the largest private Elvis Collection in the world.
