How do I mark replies as solutions?

If you ask a question on Connect by creating a new topic, you have the ability to choose a comment as the solution by clicking on the Solution check mark. This helps Local Guides find answers when searching in the community. Topics with a solution have a check mark icon next to their titles.

Should I have an accepted solution for all my topics?

It depends on the purpose of your topic and the question asked. If you’re sharing about your experiences or your question is broad and doesn’t require a definite answer, you don’t have to mark any replies as a solution. Note that the Solution option is only available for topics in the Google Maps tips & tricks category as that’s the best place to ask questions and get insights from community members.

How do I mark a reply as a solution?

When someone provides you with an accurate answer, you can click on the Solution check mark in the bottom right corner of their response.

How can I find the solution to a topic?

The solution will appear at the end of the original topic in a gray rectangle and with a green check mark next to it, so you don’t have to scroll through the comments. It will show the Connect username of the person who gave the answer and an option to expand the text to read the whole response.

Who can accept a solution?

The author of the topic, Google Moderators, and Connect Moderators have the ability to mark replies as solutions to a topic.

Who can remove a solution?

Solutions that appear irrelevant or inaccurate may be unmarked for the benefit of all Local Guides by Google Moderators, Connect Moderators, or the author of the topic. A moderator will let you know whenever they remove a solution.

How do I unmark a solution?

If you’d like to remove the solution from your topic, go to the marked reply and click again on the Solution check mark. Once you do that, the check mark icon will re-appear under all replies so that you can mark another response if needed.

Can I mark my own reply as a solution?

We don’t encourage you to mark your own replies as a solution unless you have proof to back it up. For example, by sharing the link to a topic where a similar question with an accepted solution was asked on Connect or an external link where the answer to your question can be found, like the Google Maps Help Center.

Before posting your question or issue on Connect, be sure to search the community as the same question may have already been asked and answered.

If your post is about sharing experiences or discussing broader topics that don’t have a single correct answer, there’s no need to mark any replies as a solution.

When to Mark a Reply as a Solution

You’ve Asked a Specific Question: If your post includes a question or issue that requires a clear answer.
The Reply Provides a Complete Answer: If someone’s response fully addresses your question or solves your issue.
The Reply Adds Value: If it includes helpful tips, resources, or insights that directly contribute to resolving your query.

Why to Mark a Reply as a Solution

Helps Others: Marking a reply as a solution makes it easier for others with the same question to find the answer quickly.
Acknowledges the Contributor: It recognizes and appreciates the effort of the person who provided a helpful response.
Keeps the Community Organized: It ensures threads remain focused, and users know which reply is most relevant to the topic.

I agree with what you described above @Ranu5g . The general idea is that if the reply is an actual answer/solution to the question, then it’s good to mark as solution. If the question is more to get opinions, or an open question, then it’s not mandatory to mark as solution (although this is dependant on the context of the question as well).

I see you’re trying to quote part of your posts, but it looks like there are unintended words (blockquote) here and there. It might be good to have another look at your post to see if it can be cleaned up. You can utilize the ‘Show Preview’ button just right below your post to see what it would look like when you publish the post.

@iyudhi you are write this is dependant on the context of the question as well

I am sorry if I smile, @Ranu5g , but I find hilarious to see this post a few hours after i shared with you the original one

Considering that we have a recent Official post about this topic (post that you forgot to mention) to keep Connect organised I am merging your topic in there
