In July, I made a simple call: Let’s bring Cambodia’s Local Guides back together.
It had been a while since our community had gathered, but I believed the spark was still there. That call turned into action — and action turned into four official meetups in less than a month: July 19, July 26, August 3, and August 10.
These weren’t just events. Each one had a purpose.
On July 19, we met in a hybrid format — in a peaceful garden café and online — to reconnect, share stories, and welcome both new and returning members Recap: [Hybrid] Cambodia, July 19, ជួបគ្នាម្ដងទៀត! កម្មវិធីជួបជុំ Cambodia Local Guide Meetup is Back. I reminded everyone that Google Maps is where we contribute, but Local Guides Connect is where we tell our stories.
On July 26, we rolled up our sleeves in Phnom Penh for “Let’s Fix the Map.” We collaborated to correct incorrect information, add missing details, and share our expertise on mapping tools, such as Street View Recap: [In-Person] Cambodia, July 26, Let’s Fix the Map: Improving Google Maps in Phnom Penh
Then came August 3 — our first-ever Cambodia Google Maps Mega Edit Marathon. From 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, we worked without stopping. Coffee in one hand, phone in the other, we identified over 355 problematic locations — spam, fake businesses, wrong coordinates — and prepared detailed reports for Google

Just one week later, on August 10, we returned for Phase II: Map Data Problem Marathon. This time, we verified and tracked 308 more problematic locations, turning our focus to evidence-based reporting for Google and protecting Cambodia’s digital Recap: [In-Person] Cambodia, August 10, Cambodia Mega Edit – Map Data Problem Marathon (Phase II)
Through all of this, I’ve been lucky to have inspiration from people who’ve been walking this journey long before me. @Sophia_Cambodia, our Connect Moderator, has been a constant source of encouragement — showing me the value of being active on Local Guides Connect and sharing our local stories with the world. And @ChamnanMuon, with whom I share a long journey on Google Maps, continues to inspire me with his commitment and passion for mapping.
These four meetups were my official ones this year, but my work for the Local Guides community goes beyond dates and events. They are part of a bigger mission — to inspire more Cambodians to be active Local Guides, to improve our country’s digital map, and to show that every contribution matters.
I also deeply appreciate all the new Local Guides in Cambodia who joined us recently — your fresh energy and willingness to learn give me hope for the future of our community. @sokharebeka, @rthyvong, @SengPheng, @Meta, @angkeaay, @JetlyChan, @brosethy not new but we meet on LG , @MonikaSreng, @hoksambath, @sovatoung, @pupich, @sovankiryros, @Makara_YEM, @SodarothVA, @athell, @ViasnaPhon, @sakuraengly, @jvansd, @mosesngeth
I’m proud to be part of this movement. And I’m not stopping. This is just the beginning — more meetups, more learning, more impact. Together, we’re building a stronger, more accurate map for Cambodia, one edit at a time.
