I believe in the power of the people, meaning crowdsourcing as a means to affect change both large and small. While reviewing places, sharing images (2D & 3D), and answering place questions is not going to alter the state of the world, it does provide me a chance to help in a small way.
My most cherished activity is answering accessibility questions about places I visit to allow a person with disability to know what to expect for access at a location. I have a co-worker who is in a powered wheelchair and have listed to her stories of going somewhere that said it was accessible but was not. Knowing that someone external to the business or location has verified this is incredibly important and something she was unaware of but always checks now.
My favorite is sharing 3D pictures. The look on a person’s face as they sit in their chair holding my phone spinning around and leaning back is amazing. To them it is like a magic portal to somewhere in the world and it makes a real connection that a 2D photo cannot. Also, it totally makes up for all the crap my family gives me for falling behind and looking like Rain Man. As an FYI, I am on the spectrum but the HFA end that was formerly known as Asperger’s.
Reviews are the least favorite when it is negative since I feel anyone/place/etc. can have an off day or experience. I do leave them when I have concerns that rise above a certain level, like multiple visits or very high cost items, since I would be remiss to not and then later find someone I knew had the same experience.
