Hello Local Guides! ![]()
We all know that answering quick questions about places weâve visited is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to contribute to Google Maps. It helps build a rich, detailed database for users searching for specific amenities. But what happens when the algorithm asks you a question that makes absolutely no sense?
Instead of just hitting âSkipâ or guessing, we have the power to fix the system! Here is a quick guide on how to report incorrect or irrelevant questions to keep Google Maps data clean and helpful.
Where to Find the Questions
To start shaping the map, head over to the Contribute tab on your Google Maps app. Look for the card that prompts you to âAnswer simple yes/no questions to help othersâ and tap âStartâ.
How to Report a Bad Question (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Spot the Issue As you tap through, youâll see various prompts, such as being asked if a specific pharmacyâlike Apollo Pharmacy Kudasan 3âoffers passport photo services. Usually, you can simply answer âYes,â âNo,â or âNot sure.â However, sometimes you might get a question that is completely out of place.
Step 2: Find the Report Flag If a question is irrelevant, confusing, or poorly worded, donât answer it. Instead, look at the top right corner of the question card. You will see a small speech bubble icon containing an exclamation mark. Tap this flag to report the question.
Step 3: Choose the Right Reason Tapping the flag opens a new menu where you can tell Google exactly why this prompt is unhelpful. For example, if Maps asks if a local Seva Kendra has a pharmacy, you can select the option stating, âThe question isnât relevant for this placeâ.
You can choose from several reporting options:
-
The wording is strange or unclear.
-
The question isnât relevant for this place.
-
The question isnât appropriate for my country.
-
The set of questions is redundant or confusing.
-
This place is permanently closed.
-
Other issue.
Step 4: Submit Your Feedback Once youâve selected the most accurate reason, simply tap the âSubmitâ button at the bottom of the screen. You can also hit âCancelâ if you change your mind.
Why Your Feedback Matters
When we report bad questions, we are doing more than just skipping a weird prompt. We are actively training the Google Maps algorithm to understand what amenities belong to what categories. This prevents future Local Guides from being spammed with irrelevant questions and ensures that the information shown to everyday users is highly accurate and reliable.
Letâs Discuss!
Have you ever come across a completely bizarre or funny question while contributing on Google Maps? Do you actively use the reporting flag, or is this feature new to you?
