Have you ever encountered a small restaurant in a big city that instantly transported you to another country, region, or culture, not because of the decor, but because of the real people, food, and culture?
This challenge is about celebrating diversity through authentic traditional restaurants in your city or anywhere you travel.
What makes a place qualify for #RealRoots?
They serve authentic traditional dishes from a specific country, region, or culture.
Run by people originally from that country, region, or culture.
Simple, honest food — not a fancy or overly fusion-style restaurant.
You must have visited it yourself and added your experience on Google Maps.
How to participate:
Visit a traditional restaurant in your city (or while traveling) that fits the above.
Make sure it’s run by people from that cultural background.
Upload photos of food, menu, and place on Google Maps.
Leave an honest review — even a short one.
Mention:
Is the food authentic?
Are the dishes native to that region/culture?
Would you recommend it?
Observe and note:
- What makes the place feel real or unique?
- What dishes stood out?
Duration of the Challenge.

Any interesting story or interaction?
Why this matters:
Big cities are full of global food, but not always real, community-run, traditional spots. This challenge is about preserving culture through food and giving visibility to people who bring genuine local taste to new places.
