#Challenge! Add any two Photos of a Museum - Exploring Culture and Heritage on International Museum Day – TravellerG

Hello LG Friends!

Challenge:

Have you visited any museums? Kindly (briefly) share your experience and two photos in the comments! Please try to add the Google Maps Link also - Thanks.

(Tips: at the end of this post)

On May 18, we celebrate International Museum Day – a special occasion to recognise the value of museums as centres of culture, heritage and learning. For us as Local Guides, it’s more than just a day — it’s an opportunity to explore local treasures, share hidden gems, and spark curiosity among our communities.

Museums Matter a lot to our Local Guides:

Museums tell the stories of our cities, people, and planet. Whether it’s a grand national museum or a small local gallery, each one plays a role in preserving identity and inspiring discovery. As Local Guides, we often help others uncover these spaces by adding reviews, photos, and videos to Google Maps…right?

International Museum Day, organised by the International Council of Museums (since 1977), brings global attention to the way museums contribute to cultural understanding and social development. The theme in 2025 is “Museums for Education and Research” — a perfect match for our mission as Local Guides to share knowledge and insights.

As Local Guides, we’re uniquely positioned to help others explore and appreciate these cultural treasures - what is your opinion?

I am showcasing the Indian Prime Minister’s Museum (Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya) through a couple of photos - hope you will enjoy.

If you have a little extra time, then:

  • Visit a Museum, write your experience as a Review on Google Maps with helpful Photos and Videos.
  • Create a ‘Google Maps List’ like “Top History Museums in Your City” or “Kid-Friendly Museums Near Me.” Lists help travellers and locals alike. (tag me if you need any help)
  • If you are a fan of museums, write a separate post about your ‘Favourite Museum’ and tag me, please.

Photography Tips:
Museum Photography can be challenging in many cases, especially when the object is within a transparent case; the foremost issues are the ‘self-reflection and light glare’ (of the photographer/external light) - try changing the camera angle or moving a bit, and you can mostly avoid the above problems. Also, keeping the camera close to the case can help.

Hope you all will enjoy…
Thanks in advance. :folded_hands:

Thank you for the wonderful description of the importance of museums @TravellerG :+1:
Local guides have a special relationship with museums.
Especially people like me are huge fans of exploring museums.

Pune has an astonishing 45+ museums.
I have made a Google Maps List too, and have explored 10 of them so far.

I will post and tag you when I explore new ones.
Meanwhile, here are the memories from the previous museum visits.

  1. Fire Museum, Pune

  1. Miniature Railway Museum, Pune

The best part of the museums in Pune is that they are all conveniently reachable by the metro, making it a breeze to explore them

 Note: I also pride in exploring about 23 of the 52 museums in Delhi.

Thank you dear @TravellerG sir for initiating this series. Indeed visiting museums are such an enriching experience, me being a history buff I get excited like a small kid to be amidst a treasure trove of historical artefacts. I haven’t visited many museums, but I will certainly share two pictures here in the comments related to my recent visit to the National Museum in New Delhi.

This picture is perhaps one of the most important and popular artefact belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization of Mohenjodaro. It depicts a dancing girl in Bronze which has beautifully decorated bangles and necklaces worn by the dancing girl, which shows the expertise of the artists during the Indus Valley Civilization.

This is another artefact related to the Indus Valley Civilization, of a preserved skeleton which has survived for more than 4000 years, of a woman wearing bangles, she was buried with ordinary objects like clay pottery and other such things which suggests that they believed in the afterlife and prepared the dead for the journey to the afterlife. This skeleton’s tooth DNA revealed that they used to eat foods like Bhindi (Okra), Haldi (Turmeric) and rice.

These artefacts are a few crucial things which have given us insights on the life of people living in this era, as the Harappan script hasn’t been deciphered yet.

Thank you @TusharSuradkar for your kind appreciation. Yes, it’s a must visit place and an entire day can be spent on visiting the entirety of this museum which is conveniently divided into different periods/areas.

A very funky museum I visited last week.
Yes, it is looking like an old flat but this is an interactive museum called the Red Flat in Sofia Bulgaria dedicated to show every day life of family during the cold war on the soviet side.
You can actually walk around and touch everyone which is quite fun for a museum.
The narration in the audio guide offered is very engaging.

Shows you don’t need much space for a museum if you want.

Is it the best in the world?
No but everyone has something else that inspires him. Science, History, Art, Nature..
I have been to many (many) museum in my life and considering best museum is like asking your favourite child.
If you push hard, I’d say musee d’orsay in Paris
I am a sucker for impressionism and this place for me is pure magic.
