Celebrate World Heritage Day & International Day for Monuments and Sites 🏛️ With Me

Hy Local Guides, :classical_building:

For all Monumentalists and Heritage Explorers, today marks an important day as World Heritage Day and International Day for Monuments and Sites focused on April 18th. Check out about Heritage Treasures Day.

These both days mark and bring awareness to protect natural heritage, culture and monuments. This day also points to protection and preservation of these important sites and heritage. This day came to be in 1982, announced by the International Council on Monuments and Sites, which got officially placed in 1983 by UNESCO.

Each year on April 18th, Archeological Survey of India (ASI) grants Free Entry to every monument and heritage site under ASI across India. Tell us how your country celebrates this Day?

How can we as a Local Guide celebrate this Day?

  • Visit Local Monument :classical_building: or heritage site. Leave reviews about Accessibility :wheelchair_symbol:, visiting hours :hourglass_done:, parking space :p_button:, equipment allowed :camera_with_flash:, etc on Google Maps.
  • Share your traveling experiences :backpack: and how you came to know about the monument or sites as a post!
  • Creating a photo🖼️/review✍️/experience🌟/meet-up Challenge to have local guides participate. For example : #MonumentsthroughLocalGuides.
  • Fun Idea :light_bulb: - Click a photo :camera: of you and monument in behind with the Local Guides Anniversary Photo Booth and share your experiences with the photo.
  • You can also share your Maps Lists of local Historical Monuments with other fellow Local Guides, friends or families. Must Visit Historical sites or museums in Trivandrum.

Rock Cut Cave temple, situated near the Vizhinjam Harbour. I stumbled upon this monument when searching another museum in Vizhinjam on Google Maps. On the left in the photo, Shiva in Tripurantakara form and right unfinished Shiva in Nataraj form with unfinished Parvathi. For more detailed photo, please check in the review. These are from Ay Dynasty, where Ays kings ruled Southern Kerala. Vizhinjam was said to be covered with Rocks during the making period and this monument now remains as a memory. This monument is also said to be the earliest rock cut temple discovered in Kerala.

Accessible Entrance :wheelchair_symbol: into the temple. Free Entry into the monument throughout the year with free of cost pooja on special occasions.

Share your local Heritage or Monument sites which have cultural importance. You can also share monuments or heritage sites you visited.

Nice…! I did not realize that what we celebrate year-round has a special dedicated day.
I would have planned a meetup to visit one of the many monuments in Pune.

The photos of the Rock Cut Temple look fabulous @Rahul001 :+1:

Thank you @TusharSuradkar for your valuable comment and words.

I too came to know yesterday when having a morning walk near to a monument.

You can still plan a meet-up right, collaborative meetup would be perfect I guess.

Looking forward to seeing your post on Monuments and heritage @Maximilianozalazar .

Actually yes, I agree with @TusharSuradkar that we were doing it years-around not knowing a special day is reserved to celebrate it.
I had personally hosted a few meet-ups at some of the famous heritage places.

The first one: Pataleshwaar temple

This was by @TusharSuradkar at Lal Mahal palace, Pune. A huge gathering of local guides from Maharashtra.

Another one by me at Mahadaji Shinde Chhatri, Pune

Then, Shri Sangli Ganapati temple, Sangli.

This one outside Maharashtra, at Teen darwaja, Ahmedabad (support small business meet-up)

Cheers!

Amazing post @Rahul001 and this is my kind of post. For the past 4 days I was on a heritage tour.

I will be writing posts regarding these places. The above picture is taken in Dharasuram Temple.
