Hy Local Guides,
Today is Celebrated and Viewed as International Asexuality Day, IAD (April 6th). Asexuality comes under LGBTQAI+ spectrum where A represents individuals or communities who represent as Asexuals.
What is Asexuality?
Asexuality comes under LGBTQ+ spectrum where an individual feels little or no sexual attraction towards their partner. It doesn’t mean they won’t be, that’s why Asexuality has three sub-categories. “Ace” is a preferred term used to refer asexual individuals, just like “Aro” for Aromanticism.
There are types of Asexuality which determine types of romantic behaviour or sexual attraction towards others (Demisexual, Asexual, Graysexual).
IAD also falls on Autism Awareness Week which would also welcome Autistic Aces.
Common facts of Asexuality
- Asexuality is not a lifestyle choice.
- Asexuality can be seen in every spectrum and even in Heterosexual individuals.
- Asexuality is not a new thing or orientation - well it was first documented around the 1800s which was stated in a book of Ela Przybylo, a Professor of English, Women’s, Gender and sexual studies.
Other important spectrum days are coming up in April and will be discussed about that.
