As many here will know, the Top 100 leaderboard system is more than just about monthly leaderboards. It also offers powerful tools to help us easily keep track of our contributions. For example, a recently added advanced user feature calculates and displays the number of hidden media and hidden reviews we have, and does this in real-time. Simply log in, and head to the Maps data option, and as shown in my example screenshot, a window will be displayed showing the number of hidden media and hidden reviews you have at the time. As you can see, at the moment I have 53 hidden media and 167 hidden reviews!
Many Local Guides want to ensure their contributions are perfect. Unfortunately, finding these hidden media and reviews isn’t easy. Google Maps hasn’t given us a simple way to identify them. While there are some posts on Connect about finding hidden photos and reviews, it’s a huge task that takes a lot of effort.
So, here’s my question:Can the Top 100 system also help us find these hidden contributions, making this big task easier?
I completely agree with you dear friend @PrasadVR on this. This is a great tool and it is getting improved over a period of time. Along with the improved features, this allow LGs to deep dive into their contribution data and lead them to Quality Contributions with a high impact to the community.
Undoubetedly @shaileno, this tool is helping the contributor LGs Show & Shine. Hats off to the leader who is up and running all the time for its betterment for all of us in the community.
From what I’ve heard those hidden ( either reviews or photos) goes under display I mean are not public.
Which means no reactions towards them while the top 100 system is based on reactions ( views especially which is gained from public!)
So In my opinion the top 100 system couldn’t either help us found our hidden or make that task easier for us …we should at anytime according to me follow the available we used to…
Thanks! #LG.
You right, @Laurentcurrently, the T100 system cannot help identifying hidden contributions, but please don’t forget @AdamGT is permanently working on improving the system. So, it first depends on his and possibly others’ inventiveness, to imagine a potential solution and then whether and when a solution can be implemented under the given limitations of time and computing resources.
In any case, meanwhile I suggest to everybody to always check all recently posted contributions, whether they are public or not by comparing My Contributions in parallel in a private (i.e. logged into Google) and an anonymous browser session without logging in. This way, we can catch those posts becoming hidden immediately after uploading and avoid increasing the number of hidden from the beginning.
Very recently, I found a photo which was not published within one hour after uploading, but it was public the next morning. So, don’t give up too early, but check again.
Wow … Seems like T100 system have changed and improved in last 7 months…I have used the system to register for being a part of T100 leaderboard back in January and haven’t checked it after that… Thanks @PrasadVR ji for sharing this information
Thank you dear friend @Kumaarsantosh, for your positive feedback and for agreeing. Appreciate your kind words about the tool and the efforts to improve it for Local Guides.
You see the T100 leaderboard as a game changer, I completely agree with you dear @shaileno ji.
That’s a helpful suggestion for the Top 100 System to show hidden contributions, that is what I’m looking for @Annaelisa
Thanks for sharing your views @Laurent I hope to see this feature on Top 100 someday.
Thank you for sharing your strategy for handling unpublished photos and your perspective on the percentage of hidden content.
Hello @SarathUpendran,
you are correct: the T100 system is permanently improved.
But regarding:
Please note, if you do not update and verify the numbers of your contributions monthly, you are not really part of the leader boards. You should enter the numbers at least once a month before the first day of the next month.
Sinn und hilfreich ist das T 100 System für die Aktualität unserer Beiträge zur Bestenliste @SarathUpendran und sollte dementsprechend verwendet werden.
Es bietet so gute Ăśbersichten.
Thanks for your post @PrasadVR and yes a recent advanced user feature added to the Leaderboard System is where it calculates and displays the number of hidden media and hidden reviews if any that we have. As @shaileno mentions here, this “gamechanger” feature was made available to all System users as part of beta testing.
There were a number of factors behind the motivation for this feature such as (1) many users do not even know they have hidden contributions (see Working out the Number of Hidden Reviews & Photos by @LightRich, (2) many don’t understand how and it is difficult to calculate the number hidden contributions they might have (see Hidden Reviews? Read this by @MortenCopenhagen), (3) the number of hidden contributions can vary on a daily basis which means that users have to continually do the calculations to keep on top of the hidden contributions.
The System addresses these issues and as you have said Prasad, you simply login and the calculations are done for you in real-time! What this means is that if you login today you will see the number of hidden contributions you have today, login tomorrow and if things have changed you will instantly get an updated summary of your hidden contributions. It’s like going to the doctor and having blood tests done and the results are immediately available! The sad thing is that many users like @SarathUpendran has mentioned here don’t even realize this Local Guides that simply register for participation just so that they appear on the Leaderboards miss out a lot. They just don’t get it
But knowing the number of hidden contributions is only part of the story. If we knew which contributions are hidden then we could see if we could make any corrections in the case of when the content violates policies or appeal if we believe that the AI has got it wrong and our content doesn’t violate policies (see How I discovered that I had hidden reviews & media by @IzzyOz.
So this brings me to your closing question Prasad and briefly, this is what others have said:
Can the Top 100 System Help Find Hidden Contributions?
So back to your question Prasad: Yes it can and @AdamGT is now calling for a limited number of Local Guides to participate in beta testing this new System feature So if you want to get involved from the ground floor of this “groundbreaking” (thank you @shaileno) new feature, follow these strict selection criteria: (1) cast your vote below and (2) explain in a comment (a) why you’d like to be involved in the beta testing, (b) what methods have you tried so far to find the hidden contributions and how long does it take you, and (c) indicate what your current contribution and hidden numbers are. Easy, peasy
Do you wish to participate in beta testing a new Leaderboard System feature to help locate hidden contributions and if so, can you allocate time for this?
Yes, I’d like to participate in beta testing this new feature and can dedicate some time for this.
Sadly, cannot dedicate time for to be involved in testing this new feature.
This is a valid concern @PrasadVR, and your numbers are scary. Mine are usually very low, currently 7 Photos and 4 Reviews. Unsuccessfully searching for such a small number of hidden contributions was quite discouraging, so I’d gladly work with @AdamGT in developing a more reliable solution for this problem.
I’m with you Tony. I have 9 hidden out of 1604. I got to this number recently by going through and doing the side by side comparison to eliminate hidden media. I too would be willing to help find a better way to find the needle in the haystack that we are looking for
Even though small, the side by side comparison did not reveal the full number stated in the Leaderboard panel. Repeating it a second or third time is not a pretty task.
Hello Alfred @Rednewt74,
same as @tony_b, I could not find my 4 oldest hidden reviews, because I was never able to scroll down far enough. Same is true for scrolling the Photos by views.
However, when scrolling the photos by date, I can reach the very end (i.e. until the first photo, I ever posted). After doing so when logged in, as well as anonymous in another session (not necessary at the same time), I copy the underlying HTML using the development tools and wrote a script to compare both files. It is possible but not so easy. The challenge is to find an ID to correlate both files and then to identify each photo, to be able to find and delete it.
