By ditching plastics, Local Guides can help Create Cleaner, Greener Neighbourhoods and encourage Sustainable Habits - TravellerG

Hello LG friends!

This post is in support of the Challenge initiated by our @KetanChhaniyara - “Ditch Plastic Spoons at Restaurants”; I have just broadened the topic…

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental threats our planet faces today. As Local Guides, we can influence our communities by raising awareness and promoting eco-conscious choices. Every small step counts - Together, We Make a Difference.

One small change I recently saw in a restaurant was switching from plastic straws to bamboo straws, and I’m excited to share my experience with you! I was excited to use it - it was very comfortable and very useful. (Google Maps Review)

Why Bamboo Straws?

Unlike plastic straws that can take up to 200 years to decompose, bamboo straws are:

  • 100% biodegradable
  • Reusable (after sterilising) and easy to clean
  • Sourced from renewable materials
  • Naturally antibacterial

Another item I noticed was the “Jaggery Packed in a cover made of Palm leaves”. I was impressed because even jaggery is more raw than refined sugar, reducing the carbon footprint to produce the product. And the cover is fully biodegradable and reusable at home as well.

Hope our friends will like these concepts and enjoy the post. And also, I hope that our Challenge host will accept this post.

Thanks for visiting this post.

Yes TG @TravellerG i appreciate this concept, infact for bamboo items used in everyday household life (like mat, hand fan, basket, etc), our permanent bamboo artisan makes them as per our requirements at our ancestral home for us.
Thanks :folded_hands:

Awesome post @TravellerG about eco Friendliness and Ditch the Plastic Spoons Challenge.

You beautifully connected the topic and spread it into a broad way.

I liked watermelon juice with slice of :watermelon: & the paper straws.

And most festivals in Kerala uses eco friendly options like palm leaf bags or coconut spoons!

Absolutely brilliant post, Dear @TravellerG!

The bamboo straws and palm leaf packaging are truly standout entries in the #NoPlasticSpoons challenge. :star_struck:

It’s truly inspiring to see such innovative and sustainable alternatives being adopted.

The competition is heating up with these creative contributions! Choosing the top 10 entries is going to be a delightful challenge in itself.

If you haven’t already, could you please add the link to your Google Maps review for this entry? Including the review link is a mandatory part of the challenge, and it would be wonderful to have your full submission featured.

Thank you for broadening the scope and bringing more eco-friendly practices into the spotlight. :herb:

Love seeing real-world examples like bamboo straws and palm leaf jaggery packaging! It’s one thing to talk about ditching plastic, another to see businesses actually nailing those eco-friendly switches. This is the kind of practical inspiration Local Guides need to spot and share. :seedling::recycling_symbol: Thank you @TravellerG for your time and efforts.

Hello dear friend @Gouri.PS

Yes, dear friend @Gouri.PS , I too have heard about Bamboo Straws but physically used for the first time… Initially, due to the thickness of the Bamboo, I felt uncomfortable… but after 3..4..sips, I got used to it.
