Local Guides meet-ups are gatherings amongst Local Guides, and all Local Guides from all over the world are free to attend. These Local Guides usually gather to make Google Maps better for everyone — by editing the map, uploading photos, adding reviews all while doing something fun. Local Guides from the same city sometimes meet-up just to get to know each other better. Depending on the type of meet-up, they can be free or paid (by Local Guides themselves).

Ciao, a parte la completa e precisa risposta di @JeslynL aggiungo che i meetup non hanno un costo, se non quello delle attività che deciderete di fare.
Potete semplicemente organizzare un meetup fotografico, in un luogo a scelta, senza spendere nulla, od organizzare una "mangiata" (food crawl) in un nuovo ristorante da recensire, e dividere le spese.
Una volta approvato sulla piattaforma di organizzazione dei meetup, potrai condividerlo con ogni mezzo (inclusi tutti i social che conosci) ed invitare persone (anche non Local Guides).
Google non offre alcun supporto economico o gadget per il tuo meetup, ma potrai utilizzare le grafiche a disposizione per questo specifico scopo.
Prima di organizzare un meetup, ti consiglio di partecipare ad un meetup già a calendario dalle tue parti!
