Ranking

I suggest to create a National and World Ranking for local guides. Where a local guide can see his rank between his/her friends, country or world...

Since many are reaching level 5 it would be nice to have a ranking based on points and contributions.

That great to give idea.
But, IMHO, this is not really a course, so why having a "rank" dashboard to see who is best or not?

Please tell me if i'm wrong.

i think already the more points you have more than someone, the better ranked you are!

@MichelChammas,

Local Guides is not a competition. By publishing stats like this, you are only encouraging users to increase their points count, not worrying about quality, which is where we should be focusing.

Stats are useful for a personal goal, but not more.

I agree with @Keith A's point of view. If a ranking method measures quality of contributions, I'd be for it, but I'd oppose a board that is purely based on points that can be obtained mechanistically. Quality, not quantity, as is often said. But then what is quality? Discuss ...

I agree with both @Keith A & @wasaweb. The whole Local Guide expereince (at least for me) should be about helping others access correct and helpful information. In my opinion, adding leaderboards or other metrics that encourage competetion as such will futher bring down quality.

Just look at the Level 4 Exclusive Access section on this site. It's filled with Google drive topics. Sure a bunch will post high quality reviews but just from personal experience a lot aren't. Adding a ranking system would be problimatic I think. https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Level-4/bd-p/Level4

Sure it is not a competition, but we would like to see who is contributing more. Therefore why there is points? so it is the same thing.

And I don't think that it will affect the quality because many person will be contributing to a same place that would add more information.

I contributed a lot in my country and I added lot of missing places and fixed many many places. but now it feels like boring! I think yes it would be a challenge and it could be with quality.

It's my point of view. I would like to see my rank and how much I contributed in comparing to others. because I am giving lot of time in contributing because I love to help others.

@MichelChammas,

The points are not there for competition, but to give you an understanding of how much you have helped others.

So, how about making it possible to rank us Local Guides? Perhaps the LG trolls (yes, there seems to be such a thing) could be spotted easier if they are ranked down by a bunch of people and the LG folks who do a great job would get credit for the great work. I find the LG spam reviews extremely frustrating.

That is the correct question and it comes with another subject: Who will measure the quality? But we are talking about google here, maybe they can release some Natural Language Proccesing capable bot or some engine to assign quality to the content  generated by us.

Should I flag a 'review' by a Local Guide that's just stars without any motivation whatsoever?
