Include Options For The Status of a Road On Google Maps

It is naturally seen on the map (satellite view) that there are roads and most times when added by local guides they are often added as local roads, highway etc.

In so many developing countries around the world not all roads are motorable and for a map user who has been directed to ply a route he may not be aware that a particular road is very bad and requires reconstruction.

My Idea is that:

Google maps makes an option where local guides can state the status of a particular road, (status: Motorable, non-motorable, rough, tarred, under construction, abandoned, with potholes, broken/defective bridges).

These should be mentioned to the maps user during his navigation through routes especially those he isn't used to.

Thanks @Austinelewex

I just hope so and I believe there are more of great ideas coming to the maps but the support level determines.

A good overstating but I have a little bias towards this @SamsonS

1. If the potholes filled roads gets fixed or the road under construction becomes completed,  who gets to report it? People might get busy to even remember they reported a faulty roads.

2. This is very limited to only certain countries of the world..

I support the road signs and service lane part though.

Thanks for the support @Idemudia

The same thing applies to businesses and other places on the map, some businesses get closed and it is the supposed duty of local guides to report such whenever they notice such, If we consider the fact that people may not be available to edit the roads when they get fixed then we will also be forced to consider who gets to update the fact that a business has moved or closed on the map.

Well, on it being limited to certain countries of the world, that was why I used the "developing countries" especially in Africa and so many others.

For safety and accuracy, I feel these things would work just fine.

I have had the opportunity to have conversations with Uber drivers around Nigeria and I know most of their major complaints about the Good Maps.

This is a very good one @SamsonS. Practically, when you come to Benue State, many roads are very bad and alternative can always be provided by local guide.

Thanks @Webconnector

This should work well in many developing countries around the world.

Status changed to: Needs information

Hello @SamsonS,

Thanks for your suggestion!

However, at the moment your post consists of two separate ideas, the first one being about having the ability to change the status of a road and your second idea being about Google Maps showing street signs, speedbumps and more.

for Idea Exchange to work as intended, it's important that each post only contains one single idea. Therefore I have changed the status of your idea to "needs information" and would like you to edit your post to only include the first part about the road status.

I suggest posting your second idea separately in Idea Exchange.
