Google authorized local guide instructor

Hello everyone,
I am considering holding courses to Introductory local guides in the future.
In order to gain certain confidence from the citizen and the administration, I think that it is desirable that a proof of Google certification exists for the instructor.
It is equivalent to Google Trusted Photographer and level badge. It is not a card or a paper certificate.

This post does not discuss local guide certification other than instructor certification.

Instructors can receive education with e-learning like Google Digital Workshop.

  1. Google will open courses online to foster instructors and we will pass it.
  2. Obtain the title of Google certified instructor.
  3. Open a civic lecture with Connect Meet-up.

Contents of Introductory Course

  • How to use Google Maps
  • How to register a local guide
  • How to Write a Review
  • About Google policy
  • Volunteer policy
  • About usage of words on the Internet, slander, spam
  • Demonstration on the street

The advantage of Google educating us is that local guides with badges can open courses of the same quality.

@YasumiKikuchi that is a great I dea, most of the time some business owners takes us as if we are here to expose them to the state if they are not paying them TAX or something. They require us to produce some sort of identification as a local guide and if you do not have any they do not trust you and it is difficult for you to get any information that you are looking for if it is not displayed. Please someone need to consider this it is very much important!!!

Hi, Reply Thank you @Raphael-Mahumane
Probably only an electronic certificate will be issued, I think that paper certificates will not be issued in the future.
Still, it is a good thing to be able to prove your identity.

Here we are discussing the instructor apart from that.

@PaulPavlinovich Hey thanks for the link you gave Yasumi. I'm going to read through it. At CL2018 there was a lot of talk from both first and third timers about LG certification.

As LG isn't a product, it's more a contributor to GM via a publically accessible program / browser, I can see why Google can't really give certification.

Thank you for your reply @Phunky
We have gotten equivalent to a certificate that is virtually valuable by being invited to CL2018. That already has a positive influence on activities.

In order to deal with slander posts, I believe instructors who have received uniform education from Google are certified, for example, by holding classes that can be enjoyed and learned in various places, the quality of postings will be improved. The number of meet-ups will also increase.

This certification issue is really thorny. As we can see from all the requests, there's definitely a dee-seated interest and need that the community feels is missing. I believe that the requests come from a positive place - that Yasumi and many others want to share, contribute and guide others, and thus want to try to convince total strangers to take some time to attend and listen to them. As LGs spreading the news, we are doing word-of-mouth for the LG program, and that is fine until someone wants to hold a more formal sit-down talk. Does showing a level 10 badge cut it?

I don't think anywhere in Google is there a similar situation where thousands of LGs try to do this. In the developer focused side, there are certified experts, but those are very technical fields, with professional history, and people invest way more time as their full-time job and career.

Currently I feel that it is better for LG to organize informal meetups, and share unofficially. We don't want to act like we represent Google, we are not paid and we should not be taking on responsibility or liability either.

Being certified for LG is also odd as it's a consumer product, it evolves often, it's not technical etc.

I think as mentioned, being a Summit/Connect attendee already gives alot of street cred and that can be used to help in this situation.

It feels like the best parallel to our situation is "influencer". As much as I dislike that term, it is most appropriate as we are sharing how to use maps/LG, it isn't an official title (eg you dont have a Instagram Influencer rank or badge).

For people who have trouble when taking photos of businesses, it is a difficult situation for you. In many countries, photo-taking culture is very high. Everybody takes selfie everywhere, they take photos of their food etc. Nobody cares anymore. In other countries and cities, maybe the society is still not accepting of this. I think you need to slowly share to the owners on the benefit of it and hope that it becomes more common.

Thank you @DavidAssanti
As our local guide friends already do, we anticipate that desire for citizen's classroom will increase anyway.

Hello @JulienH
As you say, this desire already exists informally and we are digesting it informally.
Although there is no confirmation, one of the reasons Google is suffering is probably to mention freedom of expression. This is because it is a very delicate problem.

I do not believe that we will be a part of them because of the guidance of Google to improve the usage and slander of words on the Internet. For me, slander is an urgent issue, I think that it is necessary to borrow the power of Google.
From Google's education, we will not be restricted in expression. If so, it will not be a good expression from the beginning.

The instructor system is not an obligation. If you do not like Google's administration, the instructor-sponsored classroom will naturally be avoided. We should have various choices.
